Panthers Notch Win Over Cairo-Durham

The Hoosick Falls Panthers evened their season mark with a convincing road win over Cairo-Durham on Saturday afternoon.

Panther QB Max Kipp ran for 100 yards and two scores, and threw for 100 yards as well to lead the Falls attack.

Running back Liam McGarvin added a pair of rushing touchdowns for the Panthers, who broke on top and led 21-0 in the second period, cruising to the victory in the second weekend of the football season.

Next up for the Falls is a key Class C North matchup on Friday night, when the Panthers welcome in the 1-1 Witches from Greenwich.

Girls Soccer

Greenwich 4  Emma Willard 2 (Tuesday):  The Witches trailed twice in the match but scored the final three goals to lead when in mattered, topping Emma Willard in Greenwich on Tuesday.

Trailing 1-0 midway through the first half the Witches Faith Ingber found the range to even the score at 1-1.

After the break Catherine Everett gave the Saints a 2-1 advantage with a scoring strike, but a pair of Cate Abate goals put the Witches in front, and Tess Merrill added the final tally to secure the non league “W”.

 

Hoosick Falls 2  Galway 0:  The Panthers scored two first half goals on strikes from Ally Hoag and Sophie Estes, and keeper Logan Thayne and the Panther “D” posted the shutout in the non league victory.

 

Golf

Greenwich 3  Spa Catholic 2:  Jake Owens carded a 41 to lead the field in the Witches narrow victory over the Saints in action at Saratoga State Park on Wednesday.

Grant Peck and Patrick McFee notched wins in flights four and five for Greenwich.

The Saints’ Will Fizer and Dylan Mulholland won their matchups, to earn points in flights two and three for Spa Catholic.

With the win Greenwich improves to 5-2 on the year while the Saints with the loss slip to 5-3.

On a gorgeous September afternoon, Wasaren golf teams took full advantage as did the Fordian girls soccer squad and here’s how things played out.

Greenwich 5  Cambridge 0:  In action at the Battenkill Country Club, Jake Owens fired a round of 36 to lead the Witches in the sweep of Cambridge on Tuesday.

Tyler Ziehm, Bradley Brophy, Grant Peck and Darren Pemrick all earned individual wins on the day as Greenwich improves to 4-2 on the season with the victory.

 

Spa Catholic 5  Waterford 0:  Jack Constantino carded the low round of 42 and combined with his Saints teammates in shutout of Waterford.

Will Fizer, Dylan Mulholland, Roman Loftus-Graney and Patrick Penna all picked up points for the Saints in flights two thru five, as Spa Catholic moves to 5-2 on the year with the win.

 

Hoosick Falls 4  Tamarac 1:  Ryan Bloomer, Mat Smith, Alison Hathaway and Brady Hathaway all posted individual wins for the Panthers in action at the Hoosick Falls Country Club on Tuesday.

Michael Jacques with his win in flight three notched the Tamarac point.

Hoosick Falls stays perfect on the season at 9-0 while Tamarac slips to 3-5 with the loss.

 

Hoosick Falls 5  Mechanicville 0 (Monday):  Teammates Ryan Bloomer and Mat Smith shared medalist honors with rounds of 38 in the sweep of Mechanicville at the Hoosick Falls CC on Monday.

Panthers, Miles Smith, Alison Hathaway and Brady Hathaway all stepped into the winner’s circle with wins in flights three, four and five.

 

Soccer

Waterford 8  Heatly 0:  Cassidy McClement’s hat trick led the Fordians to the easy “W” over Heatly on Tuesday.

Sophia Belonga and Addy Galuski with two goals each and Natalie Rich with a single scoring strike rounded out the Waterford onslaught.

Fordian keeper Sierra Atwood (3 saves), combined with the Waterford “D” for the shutout.

Spa Catholic 3  Mechanicville 2:  The Red Raiders Anthony Fiacco fired the low round of 41 but Spa Catholic prevailed in flights 2,3 and 4 to post the narrow victory in action at the Mechanicville Golf Course.

Will Fizer, Dylan Mulholland and Ronan Loftus-Graney all post individual wins for the Saints, while Jack Salvadore in flight five earned a point for Mechanicville.

 

Hoosick Falls 5  Stillwater 0:  Ryan Bloomer carded a 39 to lead the field as the Panthers swept past Stillwater in a match played at the Hoosick Falls Country Club on Friday.

Matt Smith, Myles Smith, Alison Hathaway and Brady Hathaway with individual wins completed the sweep for the Falls who with the victory move to 7-0 on the year.

 

Hoosic Valley 3 1/2  Tamarac 1 1/2:  The Bengals Will Ashley and Zack Krill shared medalist honors with rounds of 43 but the Valley handled their business in the remaining flights to post the “W” at the Battenkill Country Club on Friday.

Nolan Rafferty, and Brett Russo won individual matches for the Indians while The Valleys Brandon Watkins and the Bengals Colby Phelps tied in flight three.

With the win Hoosic Valley improves to 7-1 on the season, and Tamarac, saddled with the loss, slips to 3-4.

Friday Night Football

Whitehall 35  Hoosic Valley 12:  Tyler Shattuck with a rushing and receiving touchdown and 137 yards on the ground led the Railroaders to the comfortable win over the Valley.

Whitehall led 23-0 at the half and extended their lead to 29-0 before the Indians got on the board in the third on a Gavin Giordano scoring run from 10 yards out.

Ethan Caiazza added a 75-yard kickoff return in the fourth period for Hoosic Valley’s second touchdown. Continue reading

Hoosick Falls Football Preview

In 2018 the Panthers of Hoosick Falls put together yet another winning season in their long history of football success.  The Falls went 4-1 in the Class C North and 7-2 overall and will look to do more of the same this year.

Longtime head coach Ron Jones highlighted four players as key returning starters for this year’s edition of Hoosick Falls.  Seniors Dmitri Rose OT/LB, Max Kipp QB/LB, Liam McGarvin HB/LB and junior Josh Colegrove will all provide two-way leadership for the Panthers this fall.

Friday Roundup

While the Wasaren golf season wraps up it’s second week of play, the leagues soccer squads have begun their 2019 campaign with the girls and boys of Stillwater opening in impressive fashion.

Stillwater 2  Queensbury 1 OT:  A remarkable sidebar from the 2018 championship season for the Stillwater girls was the fact that never once trailed.  Yesterday in the championship match of the Meehan Invitational in Stillwater, a Brigid Duffy goal for the Spartans in the 56th minute put the Warriors on the wrong side of a 1-0 game.

Stillwater responded in kind, drawing even in the 65th minute on a PK by Teya Staie, and notching the win on a Paige Brinsko header in the second overtime, to turn back the Class A Spartans and win their season-opening tournament.

The Warriors move to 2-0 on the year and push their unbeaten streak to 25 games, a streak that will be tested the next time out when Stillwater will face AA opponent Colonie.

 

Stillwater 3  Doane Stuart 0:  A pair of goals from Grant Baker and a single strike by Issac Curtis led the Warriors to the “W” in the championship game of the Meehan Invitational on Thursday.

Tim Buchal with four saves combined with the Stillwater defense to earn the shutout as the Warriors improve to 2-0 on the young season.

 

Greenwich 8  Glen Falls 1: The Witches jumped out to a 5-1 lead at the break and cruised to the season-opening victory at Greenwich on Thursday.

The Witches Tess Merrill and Faith Ingber both tallied hat tricks with Cate Abate and Kiara Vasquez finding the range as well to lead the impressive Greenwich attack.

Hoosic Valley 5  Mechanicville 0:  Oliver Eckler fired the low round of 44 to lead the Indians to the sweep of Mechanicville in action at the Mechanicville Golf Club on Thursday.

The Valley’s Nolan Rafferty, Mitchel Jones, Brandon Watkins, and Brett Pruso all posted wins in their one on one matchups.

 

Hoosick Falls 5  Waterford 0:  In a match played at the Hoosick Falls Country Club, Ryan Bloomer torched the course, carding a 31 and showing the way in the Panthers shutout victory over the Fordians.

Mat Smith, Miles Smith, Alison Hathaway and Brady Hathaway all joined Bloomer in the winner’s circle for the Falls who improve to 5-0 with the “W”.

 

Cambridge 3  Stillwater 1:  Ben Epler, James Toleman and Lydia Fronhofer all notched wins for the Indians with Epler’s 43 claiming medalist honors, in action at the Saratoga Lake Golf Club on Thursday.

Logan Pickett won the Stillwater point with a victory in flight three.

Tamarac 5  Waterford 0:  Will Ashley’s low round of 42 led the Bengals to the sweep in action at Fairways of Waterford on Wednesday.

Zack Krill, Michael Jacques, Colby Phillips and Nate Krill all posted individual wins for Tamarac who moves to 3-2 on the year with the win.

 

Saratoga Catholic 3 1/2  Cambridge 1 1/2:  The Indians Ben Epler fired a two-under par 36 to lead the field, but Spa Catholic won flights 3-5 and split in flight two to notch the match “W”.

Dillion Mulholland, Ronan Loftus-Graney and Ryan McCarroll all won matches for the Saints while Cambridge’s James Toleman and Spa’s Will Fizer split the point in the second flight.

Hoosick Falls 4 1/2  Hoosic Valley 1/2:  The Falls posted wins in the first four flights led by Mat Smith’s round of 37, as the Panthers earned the victory over the Valley at the Battenkill Country Club on Wednesday.

Ryan Bloomer, Miles Smith and Allison Hathaway all joined Mat Smith in the winner’s circle for the Falls with Brady Hathaway and the Valley’s Brett Pruso playing to a tie in the fifth flight.

Hoosick Falls improves to 4-0 with the win while Hoosic Valley absorbs their first loss of the season and moving to 4-1.

Hoosick Falls, Mechanicville Notch Golf Wins

Mechanicville 3 1/2  Cambridge 1 1/2:  In action at the Mechanicville Golf Course on Tuesday, Cambridge’s Ben Epler carded the low round of 41 but the Red Raiders posted wins in flights 3, 4 and 5 to earn the match “W”.

Andrew Sgambati, John Breen and Jack Salvadore all won individual matches for the Raiders, while in flight three Mechanicville’s Joey Manzer and Cambridge’s James Toleman split the point.

 

Hoosick Falls 4  Greenwich 1:  Matt Smith made things look easy, putting together a round of 32 in leading the Panthers past Greenwich on Tuesday at the Hoosick Falls Country Club.

Ryan Bloomer Miles Smith and Alison Hardaway all added wins for the Falls, while Bradley Brophy claimed the Greenwich point with a win in flight five.

 

Tamarac 4  Stillwater 0:  Will Ashley, Zack Krill, Colby Phelps and Nate Krill all posted wins for the Bengals in the sweep over Stillwater.

Ashley’s round of 42 was the low score on the day as Tamarac with the win even’s their mark at 2-2 on the season.

 

Hoosic Valley 3 1/2  Greenwich 2 1/2:  The Valley’s Mitchel Jones and Brett Pruso earned wins in flights two and five, while the Witches countered with flight one and four victories by Jake Owens and Bradley Brophy in a close match at the Battenkill.

In flight three the Witches Patrick McFee and the Indians Nolan Rafferty split the point, with the low score of the morning belonging to Owens and his round of 39.

The high school golf season got underway on Thursday, with six league squads teeing off to start their 2019 campaign.

Greenwich 4  Cambridge 1:  Jake Owens fired the low round of 37 to earn medalist honors and lead the Witches to the victory over Cambridge in a match played at the Hoosick Falls Country Club.

Darren Pemrick, Bradley Brophy and Clyde VanPelt all added wins for the Greenwich in the season-opener for both schools,

James Toleman notched a victory in the number two flight for Cambridge.

 

Hoosick Falls 4  Tamarac 1:  In a match played at Frear Park in Troy, Matt Smith carded the low score of 33 on the day as the Falls posted the comfortable win over the Bengals of Tamarac.

Ryan Bloomer and Ethan Yoconosh joined Smith in the winner’s circle for the Panthers, while the two teams split points in a pair of flights.

Tamarac’s Zach Krill tied the Falls’ Miles Smith in flight three, and in flight four the Bengals Colby Phelps and the Panthers Aiden Fleming also played to a deadlock.

 

Mechanicville 5  Stillwater 0:  Anthony Fiacco  posted a round of 42, claiming medalist honors and leading the Red Raiders to the sweep over Stillwater in action at the Saratoga Lake Golf Club.
