Key Stat:  The Witches kept Berlin off the board in the first period while scoring 26 themselves on their way to the easy “W”.

Key Stat:  The Raiders opened and closed well outscoring Stillwater 39-15 over the first and final periods.  Mechanicville bottomed seven triples in showing no letdown after their big win over Hoosic Valley last Friday night.

Leading Scorers:  Bengals – Emily Erickson 18       Kylie Galipeau 15            Panthers – Logan Thayne 19        Lillian Hickey 11

Key Stat:  The Bengals led 25-18 at the break and held off the Falls over the final two quarters.  Tamarac knocked down 6 of 12 from behind the arc and converted on 12 of 18 from the foul line, while the Panthers were just 1 of 2 from the stripe.

Mechanicville Survives in Schaghticoke

More times than not a good game of basketball has a series of runs in it where both teams put together an offensive push to cut a deficit or expand a lead.  Friday night in Schaghticoke the visitors from Mechanicville seemingly used every run to expand their lead while Hoosic Valley used their spurts to narrow the Red Raiders advantage.  In a game that needed all 32 minutes to decide, the Valley’s last run came up two points shy and Mechanicville survived with the thrilling 50-48 victory. A full slate of boys action played out on Wednesday night with a pair of one-sided affairs and two games that were decided late.

Key Stat:  The Panthers outscored Mechanicville 35-19 over the middle two periods and survived a fourth quarter comeback by the Raiders to earn the “W”. Continue reading

Key Stat:  Greenwich built a 35-18 advantage by halftime and put the game away with a 21-12 third period.

Friday night saw the Wasaren in full swing with a full schedule of boys and girls action where close contests were few and far between.

Key Stat:  Eleven Panthers score in the one-sided victory as the Falls moves to 3-0 with the win.

Valley Pulls Away From Raiders

In a game that was tied at both the quarter and halftime breaks Hoosic Valley gained some breathing room late in the third and gradually pulled away over the final eight minutes earning a 60-48 decision over Mechanicville in Schaghticoke Tuesday night.

The visitors ran out to a 5-1 lead early in the first with sophomore Amy DiSiena scoring four points off a runner and a transition bucket on a nice feed from Charli Goverski.

The Valley’s Renee Serafin tied things at 5-5 midway through the period on a runout, and her wing jumper to end the quarter again knotted the score at 8-8. Continue reading

Section II Girls Soccer All-Stars

Soccer players from the Wasaren were well represented on Sunday at the girls Section II soccer banquet with a number of league players recognized as Section II all-stars.

In Class C Stillwater’s Brooke Pickett was named Player of the Year and Stillwater head coach Christine Ihnatolya  was named co-coach of the C classification.

Joining Pickett on the all-star squad were teammates Teya Staie, Devon Wagner and Keelyn Peacock, Sami Dickinson (Hoosic Valley), Vanessa Evans (Cambridge), Annnelise Rebel (Waterford) and Josie Ryan (Hoosick Falls).

In Class B Savannah Bowie (Mechanicville) earned Goalkeeper of the Year while her teammates Jada Brown and Ryleigh Hopeck , along with Isabella Bisceglia (Tamarac)  were selected to the Class B team.
