Boys Basketball; Panthers, Witches Win Close

A full slate of boys action played out on Wednesday night with a pair of one-sided affairs and two games that were decided late.

Hoosick Falls 56  Mechanicville 52

Leading Scorers:  Panthers – Tristan Williams 20      Jon Kempf 13      Brennan Andrew 11 Red Raiders – Josh Germain 19

Key Stat:  The Panthers outscored Mechanicville 35-19 over the middle two periods and survived a fourth quarter comeback by the Raiders to earn the “W”.

Next Up:  Hoosick Falls (2-0), will travel to Stillwater to face the Warriors on Friday while Mechanicville (2-1), plays a road game at Hoosic Valley.

 

Greenwich 45  Stillwater 41

Leading Scorers:  Witches – John Walsh 19       Warriors – Matt Breslin 15 ( 5- 3-pointers )

Key Stat:  In an even game throughout that saw each team finish with six triples and three free throws, the Witches owned a 25-20 edge after the break which proved to be just enough for the win.

Next Up:  Greenwich (5-0), faces Tamarac in Clum’s Corners on Friday while Stillwater (1-2) plays host to Hoosick Falls.

 

Saratoga Catholic 63  Berlin 40

Leading Scorers:  Saints – Ryan McCarroll 15      Jordan Catone 12      Joe Kumlander 11   Mountaineers – Kasey Billert 10

Key Stat:  The Saints bottomed eight triples in the game, and ran out to a 38-17 lead at the break, in cruising to the easy “W”.

Next Up:  Saratoga Catholic (3-1), hosts Cambridge on Friday and Berlin (0-3) will face Waterford.

 

Tamarac 78  Waterford 58

Leading Scorers:  Bengals – Frank Zotto 17      Jacob DeFreest 17      Bo Catherwood 16    Fordians – Bobby Valigorski 19      Michael Talavera 15      T.J. Kelley 10

Key Stat:  The Bengals used a 20-4 final period to break open a close contest and post the well-earned victory.

Next Up:  Tamarac (3-0) hosts Greenwich on Friday night while Waterford (2-3) faces off with Berlin.
