On a January Wednesday in the Wasaren, four boys basketball games played out and at night’s end a close decision was no where to be found.

Tamarac 91  Berlin 32

Leading Scorers:  Bengals – Anthony Ciampolillo 23        Bo Catherwood 19          Dan Honsinger 10              Mountaineers – Kasey Billert 10

Key Stat:  The Bengals scored 20 or more in every quarter, and put 10 players in the scoring column in the one-sided affair.

Girls Basketball

One-sided contests were the theme in girls basketball on Tuesday night as every winning squad did so by a comfortable margin.

Key Stat:  With no mercy rule in basketball sometimes games like this happen.  Erickson bottoms five triples, the Bengals drill eight as a team and Tamarac rolls to the victory over the Mountaineers. Continue reading

Key Stat:  The Indians built a 38-25 advantage through three periods and closed things out in the fourth to post the “W”.

 

Maple Hill 51  Stillwater 47

Leading Scorers:  Hilltoppers – Nate Mannion 12        Tyler Hanrahan 12         Warriors – Cooper Monast 15        Grant Baker 13

Key Stat:  In a close game throughout Maple Hill converted 16 of 19 free throws, helping the Hilltoppers secure the nonleague victory in Stillwater Monday night.

Fordians, Warriors Post Wins

Just two games were played in the Wasaren on Wednesday as Mother Nature wiped more than half of the schedule.  In the two runs that avoided postponement Stillwater and Waterford notched the early January “W’s”.

Waterford 75  Spa Catholic 69

Leading Scorers:  Fordians – Bobby Valigorski 19        Michael Talavera 19        Evan Fairclough 18        TJ Kelley 12       Saints – Jake Welcome 21        Ryan McCarroll 12     Nick Condry 11

Key Stat:  The Fordians connected on seven triples and took control over the middle two periods to post the win and move to 4-3, 7-4 on the year.

 

Stillwater 71  Tamarac 67

Leading Scorers:  Warriors – Grant Baker 17       Brian McNeil 15       Scott Travis 12  Bengals – Jacob DeFreest 22       Bo Catherwood 14       Frank Zotto 11

Key Stat:  A 40-27 advantage over the middle two frames gave the Warriors enough cushion to withstand a fourth quarter rally by the Bengals and notch the “W” to even their league mark at 3-3.

Key Stat:  Cambridge won every quarter and opened things up after the break outscoring the Falls 32-13 in the second half.

Leading Scorers:  Bengals – Emily Erickson 26        Warriors – Marley Mueller 19

Key Stat:  Trailing 14-6 after the first period, the Bengals clamped down defensively holding Stillwater to single digits in the final three quarters and allowing just three Warriors to score points in the contest.      Continue reading

With a break in the league schedule, a number of Wasaren teams took the floor on Thursday night in nonleague contests. It proved to be a tough night for league squads with only the Lady Panthers of Hoosick Falls notching a “W”.

Leading Scorers:  Panthers – Logan Thayne 26       Lillian Hockey 22            Patriots – G. Maher 26

Key Stat:  Thayne and Hickey combine for 49 points, leading the Falls who withstood 10 made threes in the game by the visitors from Vermont.
