The Mechanicville Red Raiders had run the table in league play this year boasting a perfect 13-0 mark, but with the two division alignment in the Wasaren, needed one more “W” to be crowned league champions.

Saturday night in Stillwater the Red Raiders took on Waterford in the championship match, and in a game that was tight from start to finish, came away with a come-from-behind 2-1 decision over the Fordians to wear the Wasaren crown.

Waterford scored the only goal of the first half when Tyler Galarneau connected staking the Fordians to the 1-0 advantage.

With 25:00 remaining in the second half Mechanicville evened things when Chris Ciccarelli found Kevin Charette for the finish, knotting things at 1-1.

That score held until the 2:19 mark when the Raiders Jeff Luce chipped a ball over Waterford keeper Bobby Valigorsky for the game-winner.

Both teams saw strong play between the posts with Valigorsky saving 15 shots and Raider keeper Zach White turning back 10.

Waterford finishes the regular season at 10-4-2, and Mechanicville with the win wraps the campaign at 14-0, 15-1 with both squads looking to make extended runs in the upcoming Section II tournament.
