The Section II soccer tournament continued play on Thursday for both the girls and boys with seven Wasaren teams in action.

Girls

Mechanicville 1  Albany Academy 0:  Jada Brown took a feed from Michalena DePasquale and found the back of the net for the matches only goal, as the Red Raiders advance to round two with the 1-0 “W”.

Savannah Bowie saved nine shots and combined with the Mechanicville defense for the shutout.  Next up for the Raiders is a home match on Saturday with Catskill.

 

Tamarac 4  Cohoes 1:  The Bengals jumped out to a 2-0 advantage at half, on their way to the comfortable victory over the Tigers.

Isabella Bisceglia with two goals and Jenna Hunt and Shannon Ryan with single strikes led Tamarac who will travel to Voorheesville on Saturday to face the Blackbirds in a second round match.

 

Boys

Stillwater 5  Schoharie 0:  The Warriors took control early with three goals before the break in cruising to the victory over Schoharie in Class C action.

Grant Baker score the first of his two goals in the match just three minutes in when he finished a Jack Rubenstein find and the Warriors led 1-0.

Jack Zdonick connected on a direct kick from 35 yards out for the 2-0 lead and later in the half it was Baker again, this time off a feed from Harry Rubenstein for the 3-0 advantage.

Scott Travis and Harry Rubenstein added second half strikes and keeper Tim Buchal turned back eight shots to post the shutout for the Warriors who will host Greenwich on Monday in round two action.

 

Greenwich 8  Canajoharie 2:  The Witches scored four times in each half, coasting to the win over Canajoharie in a first round Class C match.

Charlie Gartner led the Witches with a hat trick, while AJ Rymph, Liam Kelleher, Bill Bink, Hunter Dixson and Conor Smith all split the posts with single goals as Greenwich moves on to their round two game in Stillwater on Monday.

 

Maple Hill 2  Berlin 0:  Second half goals from Christian Beber and Lucas Charlebois led the Hilltoppers to the win over Berlin in Class C play.

 

Waterford 2  Fort Plain 2:  The Fordians and Fort Plain remained deadlocked through regulation and overtime sessions and decided things with penalty kicks where Waterford prevailed 3-2, to advance in Class C.

Ethan Schoch scored both Waterford goals after the break in this round one battle, and with the win the Fordians travel to Mayfield on Monday for a quarterfinal match.
