Week eight in the 2018 high school football season brought with it sectional play for the areas elite squads. In a loaded C classification the Indians of Cambridge-Salem played host to Helderberg Valley on Saturday in a quarterfinal contest with the question on everyone’s mind, can anyone stop the Indians? Answer? Not on this day as Cambridge-Salem scored 35 first quarter points in cruising to a 59-6 victory.
How dominant were the Indians? Their three leading rushers Tommy English, Kaedin Ogilvie and Tyler Linendoll combined for 208 yards on 10 carries, for nearly 21 yards per rip. You can call it scheme, blocking, or a talented backfield, but on yet another Saturday afternoon Cambridge-Salem had it their way.
English scored a pair of rushing touchdowns and added a 54-yard punt return for six, and Ogilvie ran for a pair of scores to lead the Indians offense that saw six different players score points.
Next up for Cambridge-Salem (8-0), is a Class C semifinal and a date with Hoosick Falls (7-1), next weekend. The two squads met in week three with the Indians posting a convincing 57-31 “W” over the Panthers.
