The regular season for boys soccer wrapped up on Wednesday and the Red Raiders of Mechanicville picked up win number 13 to finish undefeated in league play.  Mechanicville sits atop the Hudson division in the Wasaren and will face off for the league title with the Battenkill division winner, Waterford, on Saturday.

Red Raiders Shutout the Panthers

The Mechanicville soccer team continued it’s roll through the regular season on Monday posting a 7-0 “W” over the Panthers of Hoosick Falls.

Jeff Luce connected for five goals to lead Mechanicville with Marcus Tobin and Rocco DeVito adding single scoring strikes.

Mechanicville keepers Zach White and Glenn Prarie combined with the Raider defense to earn the shutout victory and move Mechanicville’s season mark to 12-0, 13-1.

The Raiders have been dominant of late outscoring opponents 46-6 over their last seven contests and will look to extend their run on Wednesday night when they host the Bengals of Tamarac in a 7:00 start.

Wasaren Sportsnet Players of the Week

 

Congratulations to Mechanicville soccer player Jeff Luce and Greenwich cross-country runner Nina Sgambelluri on being named Wasaren Sportsnet Players of the Week.

Sgambelluri won the 80th annual Everett T. Grout Memorial Invitational on Saturday in Schenectady leading the Witches to the win in the Division II race.

Nina covered the 2.75 mile course in 15:46 to pace the Witches who saw their top six runners finish in the first 12 across the line.

Luce scored seven goals and assisted on two more over a three game span last week.

Jeff scored a goal in a 3-1 win over Colonie on Monday, followed with a four goal, one assist effort in a 10-0 win over Berlin on Wednesday and finished the week with two goals and an assist in a 6-2 victory over Stillwater on Friday.

Football; Panthers Run Past Horde, Red Raiders Fall

hoosick-falls-ny2Hoosick Falls held a slim 20-16 advantage heading into halftime Saturday afternoon in Granville but after the break the visitors took control scoring 27 unanswered and posted the 47-16 victory over the Golden Horde.

Panther running back Jeffrey Vincent rushed for 196 yards and a pair of third quarter scores, and Falls quarterback Sam Richard passed for 173 yards with three touchdowns, two going to Isaac Friel on scoring strikes of 9 and 23 yards.

A TJ Wilson one-yard touchdown run late in the second period for Granville made it a one score game, but the visitors scored four touchdowns over the final two periods, including a 55 yard fumble return by Richard, to put this one in the win column.

With the win Hoosick Falls improves to 3-1, 5-1 on the year while Granville goes to 2-2, 3-3 with the loss.   Continue reading

Mechanicville 6  Stillwater 2:  The Red Raiders improve to 11-0 in league play with the victory over Stillwater in the 8th annual Indian Cup match.

Jeff Luce and Chris Ciccarelli with two goals each, and Zach Rapaccioulo and Brandt St.Gelais with single strikes led the Mechanicville attack.

Friday Night Football; Witches Win, Cambridge-Salem, Stillwater Stay Perfect

Both ends of the spectrum played out Friday night for Wasaren football teams as Stillwater and Cambridge-Salem stay posted easy “W’s” to stay unbeaten, while the Witches of Greenwich, also in dominant fashion, notched their first win if the season.

Cambridge-Salem 54  Lake George Hadley Luzerne 0:  The Indians scored 28 second quarter points to put away yet another game by halftime, in their win over the War Eagles. Continue reading

Soccer Roundup

Mechanicville 10  Berlin 0:  The Red Raiders rang the bell five times in each half to post the shutout victory over the Mountaineers.

Jeff Luce scored four goals, three coming in the first 3:30 of the match to lead the Mechanicville assault.

Chris Ciccarelli added a pair of goals and Marcus Tobin, John Pingelski, Kevin Charette and Riley Duesler found the back of the net as well for the Raiders.

Zach White and Glenn Prarie combined to make four saves between the posts for Mechanicville who with the win moves to 11-0-1 on the year.
