Not much action in the league on Saturday as six of the seven football schools played on Friday night. Just Cambridge took the field Saturday and as they seemingly always do, handled their business. Also a nice girls soccer match up between undefeated Stillwater and the always tough Panthers of Hoosick Falls. Continue reading

Six Wasaren schools were in action Friday night in week four of the high school football season. Four of the six posted wins as league teams continue a fine fall campaign. Continue reading
“Next man up.” A common saying in team sports used when a starter is sidelined and their replacement is expected to step in and get the job done. That man in Mechanicville is running back Evan Chapman. Last week the sophomore was called on after lead back Marc DeBates went down with an injury against Holy Trinity. In that contest Chapman rushed for 181 yards and a score in the Raiders come from behind “W”. Continue reading

It’s hard to believe the high school football schedule enters it’s fourth weekend of play this Friday night. The midpoint of the regular season is upon us and it seems to have come quickly this year as summer weather’s extended stay has given September an August feel. Continue reading

Although it’s just the midpoint of the regular season, the race for the boys soccer title looks to be a three team affair. Front running and undefeated Mechanicville holds the narrow lead over Stillwater and Cambridge. Both the Warriors and Indians posted wins on Wednesday to draw closer to idle Mechanicville.
Stillwater 6 Hoosic Valley: Cooper Monost scored a pair of goals and four teammates added single scores as the Warriors ran over the Valley.
Brody Cepiel with a goal and three assists, and Grant Baker, Jack Rubinstein, and Nate Thrane with goals, rounded out he scoring for Stillwater.
Jake Zdonick made three saves for the shutout, Stillwater’s sixth in eight games.
Cambridge 3 Waterford 0: The combination of Patrick Robertson to Emerson Lopez clicked for a pair of scores to lead the Indians to the shutout victory over Waterford.
Just two minutes in Lopez took a Robertson feed and found the back of the net for the 1-0 advantage. It was more of the same minutes into the second half when Lopez finished a Robertson cross with a nice header, and the 2-0 lead.
Dan Medina wrapped up the scoring slotting the ball home off a find from Eli Robertson.
Cody Oldham with four saves earned the shutout for Cambridge who improve to 6-2 with the win.
Spa Catholic 2 Hoosick Falls 0: Two second half goals from Nick Condry and Dante Marin proved the difference as the Saints shutout the Panthers in Saratoga.
Jake Hart earned his first career shutout turning back six shots for the Saints.
Tamarac 2 Greenwich 1: Dylan Briccetti took a cross from Evan Petersen and finished with the game winning strike in the 75th minute, as the Bengals notched the victory at Clums Corners on Wednesday.
Tamarac held a 1-0 halftime lead off a Chase Ali tally midway through the first half.
Three minutes after the break Greenwich tied things when Colin Morencey found the range, setting up the late game heroics from Briccetti.
After the match both squads hold identical records at 3-4-1.

Spa Catholic 5 Stillwater 0: Saint teammates Terel Tillman and Ben Scammell shared medalist honors after firing respective 38’s leading Saratoga Catholic to the shutout win over the Warriors. Continue reading

Congratulations to this week’s Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week, Cambridge place kicker Helen Mooney.
In the Indians 63-6 victory over Warrensburg on Saturday Mooney calmly converted on 9 of 9 point after attempts. Eight no doubters, and just one that was close, but good, clearing the crossbar with room to spare. Automatic on Saturday was Mooney, a nice weapon for any team to have.
Congratulations to Helen, out latest recipient of the Wasaren Player of the Week.
