Not much action in the league on Saturday as six of the seven football schools played on Friday night. Just Cambridge took the field Saturday and as they seemingly always do, handled their business. Also a nice girls soccer match up between undefeated Stillwater and the always tough Panthers of Hoosick Falls.
Cambridge 60 Salem o: The Indians scored early and often putting 27 first quarter points on the board and 21 more in the second period, notching the easy “W” over the Generals from Salem.
Ryan McLenithan rushed for 100 yards and three touchdowns, and Tommy English added a pair of scores in a game where five different Indians visited the end zone.
Cambridge, off to a 4-0 start, has out scored their Class D competition by more than 200 points this season and may not be tested until weeks six and seven with away contests versus Canajoharie and Whitehall. They however continue to prepare well and play hard every weekend, a credit to the players, and to head coach Doug Luke and his staff.
Stillwater 2 Hoosick Falls 2: The Warriors of Stillwater remain unbeaten after Saturday’s match with the Falls, but for the first time this season they didn’t add to their win column.
The Warriors led 2-1 at the half but the Panthers Phobe Thompson scored the equalizer after the break and the two squads battled to the tie.
Devon Wagner and Sydney Wayand scored with first half strikes for Stillwater, as did Taylor Mann for the Falls.
Stillwater keeper Danika Svendsen saved 16 for the 9-0-1 Warriors, while Sydney Miller turned back 12 shots for the 5-3-1 Panthers.
