A busy Friday night for Wasaren teams in both football and soccer.  Here’s a quick look at how things played out.

Football

Hoosick Falls 38  Lake George/Hadley Luzerne 14:  Jeff Vincent ran for 129 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Falls to the “W”.

The Panthers led 19-6 at the half and put the game away with 13 unanswered in the third period.

Panther quarterback tossed a TD pass to Sam Richard and Max Kipp added a rushing touchdown for Hoosick Falls who moves to 4-1 on the season. Continue reading

The First Half of the Fall

It seems like just yesterday it was late August with it’s heat and humidity but in less than a week we’ll turn the calendar to October and with that our high school fall sports season enters it’s second half.  A good time to take a look at what’s played out for the schools in the Wasaren, in the sports that they play. Girls Soccer

Stillwater 2  Hoosic Valley 0:  The two squads battled through a scoreless first half but after the break the Warriors found the range with a pair of goals to secure the home victory over the Indians.

Paige Brinsko off a Teya Staie find put Stillwater on the board at the 45:04 mark and later in the half Keelyn Peacock found Staie who finished at the 76:08 mark, more than enough offense as the Stillwater “D” and keeper Kiersten Conroy ( 3 saves), combined to pitch the shutout. Continue reading

Soccer Results

A full slate of action for girls soccer played out on the fields across the Wasaren Thursday afternoon as the regular season moves into it’s second half.  The Warriors of Stillwater sit atop the league standings adding another “W” yesterday to remain unbeaten through nine outings.

Stillwater 11  Berlin 1:  Seven different Warriors found the range as Stillwater coasted to the easy victory in Berlin.

Brooke Pickett with a hat trick, Keelyn Peacock with a pair of goals and three assists, and Devon Wagner with two scoring strikes led the Stillwater assault.

Teya Staie added a goal and assisted on three as the Warriors with the win  go to 9-0 on the season. Continue reading

Thursday Morning Wrap-up

Boys Soccer

Mechanicville 3  Cambridge 0:  The Red Raiders stay perfect in league play winning their sixth in a row with a 3-0 shutout of Cambridge in Mechanicville on Wednesday.

Jeff Luce got things started for the Raiders, connecting from 30 yards out with a first half strike and a 1-0 lead.

Next it was Chris Ciccarelli finishing with a header off of a Luce corner kick and Mechanicville took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Justin Pugliese capped the scoring in the match finding the range for the Raiders with 2:00 left and sealing the home victory for Mechanicville.

Zach White with six saves and the Red Raiders defense earned the shutout. Continue reading

Wasaren Wednesday

Girls soccer and golf took center stage in the league on Tuesday with one-sided affairs the norm on the soccer fields, while a team fell from the unbeaten ranks in golf.

Soccer

Stillwater 7  Tamarac 2:  The high powered attack of the Warriors was on full display Tuesday night as Stillwater jumped out to a 6-1 lead at the half with five different players delivering scoring strikes.

Teya Staie and Keelyn Peacock led the onslaught for Stillwater with two goals each, while Kate McEvoy, Paige Brinsko and Devon Wagner all tallied as well in the match played under the lights in Stillwater. Continue reading

Boys Soccer

Stillwater 3  Tamarac 2 OT:  Just a few minutes into the extra session Stillwater’s Scott Travis scored his third goal of the match leading the Warriors to the overtime win Monday night.

Tamarac’s Max Ali gave the Bengals the 1-0 lead scoring the only goal by either squad in the first half.

After the break Travis scored his first goal on a header off a Grant Baker corner to knot things at 1-1.

With 17:00 left in regulation it was Travis again this time finishing a Jake Zdonick cross for a 2-1 Warriors lead.

With just over 4:00 remaining in the half Ali tied things, scoring off a direct kick and sending the contest into overtime where Travis connected on the game-winner under the lights in Stillwater.

 

Mechanicville 3  Greenwich 1:  The Red Raiders broke open a 1-1 game at the half with a pair of second half strikes in posting the win over Greenwich.

Just seven minutes in Mechanicville’s Jeff Luce found the back of the net giving the Raiders the early lead, but midway through the first Liam Kelleher tied things, scoring on a penalty kick as the teams went to intermission knotted at 1-1.

After the break Luce connected on his second goal of the match and Kevin Charette also found the range for Mechanicville who with the win stay perfect in league play at 5-0. Continue reading

Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week

73_greenwichCongratulations to Greenwich soccer player Charlie Gartner on being named this week’s Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.

On Tuesday Gartner scored a pair of goals and dropped an assist in the Witches 6-0 win over the Mountaineers of Berlin.

Charlie followed that up with a three goal effort in a 9-0 victory over Hoosick Falls on Thursday and wrapped up the week with another hat trick on Saturday leading Greenwich to a 5-2 decision over Greenville.

Congratulations to Charlie, our newest Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.

Friday Night Football, Soccer and Golf

Cambridge-Salem 57  Hoosick Falls 31:  The matchup between a pair of unbeaten Class C teams saw Cambridge in control throughout as the Indians jumped out to a 24-6 lead early in the second period, extended their advantage to 28-18 at the half and cruised home with their third win of the season.

Tyler Linendoll rushed for 213 yards and five touchdowns and Tommy English added 157 yards with three scores to pace the Cambridge-Salem attack.   Continue reading

Results From a Wasaren Wednesday

Girls soccer and golf highlighted a Wednesday afternoon in the league.

Soccer

Greenwich 2  Hoosick Falls 1 OT:  Faith Ingber took a Cate Abate feed and found the back of the net in overtime to give Greenwich the victory over the Panthers.

Ingber had assisted Abate for the Witches first goal in the match giving the host squad a 1-0 lead at the half, but an Olivia Brownell tally for the Falls after the break tied things at 1-1 setting up the game-winner by Ingber. Continue reading
