Greenwich put four players in doubles and won every quarter in the easy non-league victory over Corinth

The Fordians held a two point advantage heading into the final frame but Voorheesville used a 22-11 quarter to post the “W” in the championship game of the Waterford Holiday Tournament.

Voorheesville’s Zaveon Little was named tournament MVP while both TJ Kelley and Michael Talavera of Waterford were named to the all-tournament team.

 

Niskayuna 67  Mechanicville 44

Niskayuna ran out to a 38-17 halftime lead in posting the non-league win over the Raiders.

 

Girls

Greenwich won every quarter and had 10 players score in the one-sided victory over the Tomahawks.

On the second night of the Amsterdam Holiday Showcase the Indians of Cambridge showed out, using a 38-26 advantage over the middle two periods to gain control, and post the comfortable victory over New Hartford on Saturday.

The Indians long range shooting provided half of their total points, as Cambridge connected 13 times from beyond the arc, with Lily Phillip bottoming six to lead the assault.

With the win Cambridge improves to 6-0 on the season and will return to action a week from tonight when the Indians will travel to Bennington Vermont for a run with the Patriots of Mt. Anthony.

Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week

73_greenwichCongratulations to Greenwich basketball player Molly Brophy on being named the Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.

On December 18th Molly poured in 23 points in a 76-11 win over Poultney Vermont and followed that up two nights later, scoring 29 points, including four triples, leading Greenwich to a 59-47 victory over Hoosic Valley.

Congratulations to Molly, our newest Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.

The Saints placed four players in doubles and used a 25-2 second period to take control, on their way to posting the victory in the consolation game of the Spa Catholic Christmas Tournament.

The Witches used balanced scoring, four players in doubles, and a 32-19 advantage over the middle two quarters, to notch the win in the Fonda-Fultonville Holiday Classic.

The Panthers held a 15-9 lead after the first period, but Glens Falls outscored their guests 39-21 over the next two frames to gain control and earn the win in the Glens Falls Grandstanders Holiday Tournament title game.

The Valley ran out to a 33-19 halftime advantage and rode that cushion to the “W” in first round action at the Maple Hill Holiday Tournament.  The Indians drilled nine 3-pointers and four players reached double figures in the win.

The Bengals held Cairo-Durham to single numbers in three of the four periods in posting their first win of the season.

Leading Scorers:  Falls – Jon Kempf 39      Tristan Williams 22       Galway – Carson Scribner 16     Thomas Villano 16

The Panthers built a 43-26 lead by halftime and went on to post the comfortable win over Galway in the Glens Falls Grandstanders Holiday Tournament.  Kempf connected on four 3-pointers and combined with Williams to outscore Galway 61-59.

 

Cambridge 46  Corinth 36

In first round action in the Saratoga Catholic Christmas Tournament, Cambridge held the Tomahawks to single digits in each of the first three periods and led 33-20 heading to the final frame.  Hall and Epler combined for 33 points and six triples for the Indians who will meet Bishop Maginn tonight in the championship game.

Both teams put four players in doubles and while Spa Catholic held a 9-4 advantage in made threes, Maginn scored 37 two-point goals to fuel the victory  in the first round of the Spa Catholic Christmas Tournament.

The Indians held a slim 40-36 lead at the break but used a 19-10 third to gain some breathing room on their way to the first round “W” in the Amsterdam Holiday Showcase.  The Phillips twins combined for 41 points and six made threes, and Cambridge converted on 14 of 18 from the free throw line in the victory.

The Panthers put three players in doubles and notched the close win over Mohon in a game that was tight throughout.

In a close game throughout the Indians defense kept the Panthers in the 30’s while Phillips twins combined for 33 points themselves in notching the “W” in a battle of undefeated squads.

Cambridge Runs Past Hoosic Valley

I got my first look at the Cambridge girls basketball team Wednesday night and it appears not much has changed from a year ago when the Indians earned the New York state Class C championship.

An almost identical roster, albeit a year older, playing with the familiar up tempo style that ultimately overwhelms opponents.

Last night Cambridge ran past Hoosic Valley 72-25, placing five players in doubles and they made it look easy.

The Indians from the north, ran out to a 9-0 start on six points from junior forward McKayla McLenithan and a wing three from junior guard Lily Phillips, while holding the Valley scoreless through the first four minutes.

But a baseline jumper from Sam Lanoue gave Hoosic Valley life and the Indians rattled off nine unanswered on a triple from Emaleigh Peckham and a pair of buckets from Anna Jensen and Ashlyn Chartier to draw even with 1:50 left in the period.

Cambridge closed the quarter with five straight on another 3-ball from Lily Phillips and two free throws from her sister Sophie, taking a 14-9 lead into the second.

Over the next eight minutes Cambridge was simply dominant, defensively forcing the Valley into committing more turnovers, (10), than points they would score, (9), while turning those giveaways into easy opportunities.

A Sophie longball got things started for Cambridge followed by a Fiona Mooney inside bucket off a nice find from Lily, and after a Chartier basket for the Valley, Cambridge  outscored the Indians 25-6 over the remainder of the quarter.

The run was led by Lily Phillips who scored 11, and Ruth Nolan’s seven points on a runner, and a pair of jumpers, one from downtown, with Stasia Epler adding a trey as well, as Cambridge took a 44-17 lead into the halftime break in complete control.

The Valley needed a third period run to jump back into the game, but it never came as the Cambridge defense allowed just four points in the quarter, extending their advantage to 55-21 heading to the final frame with the decision already in hand.

Lily Phillips finished with 17 points to lead the Indians followed by McLenithan with 14, Mooney and Sophie Phillips with 11 each and Epler with 10 points as all five Cambridge starters reached double digits.

Lanoue and Jensen scored six points each to lead the Valley.

With the win Cambridge moves to 3-0 on the year and will travel to Hoosick Falls on Friday to face the Panthers.

Hoosic Valley slips to 4-2 with the loss and will look to get back on track Friday night when they host the Witches of Greenwich.

The Indians won every quarter and posted three players in doubles, notching the non-league “W” over Schuylerville.  The Valley jumped out to a 21-11 lead after the first eight minutes to take control.  The Indians look ahead to a big early season matchup on Wednesday, when they travel to Cambridge to take on the Indians from the north.
