Stillwater Girls Earn League Title

The Wasaren girls regular season wrapped up on Saturday in Mechanicville with a full day of crossover games and the championship match between Stillwater and Hoosic Valley.

Stillwater 4  Hoosic Valley 1:  The Warriors complete an undefeated regular season by capturing the Wasaren title with the win over Hoosic Valley.

Brooke Pickett connected on all four goals to lead the Warriors who with the win move to 15-0-1 and now prepare for a deep post season run.

Casey Bugbee scored the lone goal for the Indians who wrap the regular season at 11-4-1 and will be a tough out in the upcoming Section II tournament. Continue reading

Friday Night Roundup

Hoosick Falls 45  Corinth 8:  Panther running backs Jeff Vincent and Josh Colegrove both ran for three scores as the Falls cruised past the Tomahawks.

Vincent scored on runs of 8, 74, and 45 yards highlighting a 212 yard effort, while Colegrove added 103 rushing yards for a Panther ground game that totaled 341 yards in the contest.

With the win Hoosick Falls improves to 6-1 and will enter sectional play next weekend. Continue reading

Boys Soccer

The regular season for boys soccer wrapped up on Wednesday and the Red Raiders of Mechanicville picked up win number 13 to finish undefeated in league play.  Mechanicville sits atop the Hudson division in the Wasaren and will face off for the league title with the Battenkill division winner, Waterford, on Saturday.

Boys Soccer

Mechanicville 6  Stillwater 2:  The Red Raiders improve to 11-0 in league play with the victory over Stillwater in the 8th annual Indian Cup match.

Jeff Luce and Chris Ciccarelli with two goals each, and Zach Rapaccioulo and Brandt St.Gelais with single strikes led the Mechanicville attack.

Jack Rubenstein and Nick Mincher connected with goals for Stillwater. Continue reading

Friday Night Football; Witches Win, Cambridge-Salem, Stillwater Stay Perfect

Both ends of the spectrum played out Friday night for Wasaren football teams as Stillwater and Cambridge-Salem stay posted easy “W’s” to stay unbeaten, while the Witches of Greenwich, also in dominant fashion, notched their first win if the season.

Cambridge-Salem 54  Lake George Hadley Luzerne 0:  The Indians scored 28 second quarter points to put away yet another game by halftime, in their win over the War Eagles. Continue reading

Cambridge-Salem and Stillwater football teams stay undefeated with dominant wins over the weekend.  The Indians lead the Class C North while the Warriors sit atop the C Central.  Stillwater finishes their regular season at Tamarac and home with Holy Trinity, while Cambridge-Salem travels to Lake George and Greenwich in weeks six and seven.

A nice touch at the senior recognition day in Cambridge on Saturday was having all Cambridge alumni attending, sign in under the decade in which they graduated, with all the names read at halftime.  Continue reading

A busy Friday night for Wasaren teams in both football and soccer.  Here’s a quick look at how things played out.

Football

Hoosick Falls 38  Lake George/Hadley Luzerne 14:  Jeff Vincent ran for 129 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Falls to the “W”.

The Panthers led 19-6 at the half and put the game away with 13 unanswered in the third period.

Panther quarterback tossed a TD pass to Sam Richard and Max Kipp added a rushing touchdown for Hoosick Falls who moves to 4-1 on the season. Continue reading

Boys Soccer; Raiders, Warriors, Bengals Post Wins

Mechanicville 8  Hoosick Falls 0:  The Red Raiders ran out to a 4-0 advantage at the half and coasted to the victory over the Falls.

Jeff Luce led the scoring parade for Mechanicville with a hat trick with Chris Ciccarelli adding a pair, and Jake Cavert, John Pingelski and Conor Keegan all scoring single goals for the 8-0, 8-1 Mechanicville squad.

Glenn Prarie and Zach White with two saves each combined for the Raider shutout.

 

Stillwater 3  Greenwich 0:  Grant Baker scored goals in each half spearheading the Warriors to the win over Greenwich.

Baker took a feed from Brandon DeBacco five minutes into the match and found the back of the net giving Stillwater the 1-0 cushion.

Midway through the first, it was Isaac Cutler off a Baker find and a 2-0 Stillwater lead.

Baker found the range again, midway through the second half to secure the “W” that moves the Warriors to 7-2, 9-2 on the year.

Tim Buchal with eight saves and the Stillwater defense combined to earn the shutout.

 

Tamarac 3  Hoosic Valley 2:  Tamarac’s Alex Bassey, Max Ali and Dylan Briccetti all connected for goals, with Ali’s and Briccetti’s of the PK variety as the Bengals got past the Indians of Hoosic Valley.

William Mansfield and Isaac Carlo both tallied in the match for the Valley.

The First Half of the Fall

It seems like just yesterday it was late August with it’s heat and humidity but in less than a week we’ll turn the calendar to October and with that our high school fall sports season enters it’s second half.  A good time to take a look at what’s played out for the schools in the Wasaren, in the sports that they play. Which league school has enjoyed the best overall start regarding all it’s teams and how many teams are state ranked in the various sports? Continue reading
