With the Wasaren teams heading into the holiday break I thought it was a good time for our first Blazing Five of the basketball season where we’ll list the top five league players and teams in a variety of categories. As we all know you can play with statistics and make them say what you’d like, but here are some numbers from the first four weeks of the roundball season.

There was a full slate of action for the Wasaren girls on the Wednesday before the holiday break, with just one game decided by less than 10 points. Tamarac and Cambridge with wins stayed unbeaten in league play while Hoosic Valley, Mechanicville and Waterford posted “W’s” as well.

The home standing Panthers were dominant in the first period on both sides of the ball Monday night in their run with Cambridge. The Falls held the Indians to just two points while scoring 21 themselves over the first eight minutes, gaining control early on their way to a 78-44 “W” over Cambridge. Continue reading

The Red Raiders of Mechanicville started fast, leading 14-3 after the first eight minutes, and finished strong with a 15-7 advantage over the final frame in posting a 60-50 victory over the Warriors of Stillwater Tuesday night in Mechanicville.
Kendrick McCann with 16 points and Josh Germaine with 11 led the Raiders who bottomed six 3-pointers in the game, and move to 3-0 on the year with the “W”. Continue reading
