Baseball, Softball Underway

It’s hard to believe with all the snow and rain that’s fallen over the past couple of weeks that many area high school teams have stepped on the diamonds and begun the 2017 softball/baseball season.

This week in baseball the Saratoga Catholic Saints posted a trio of dominant “W’s” scoring double digits in each victory, while the Indians of Hoosic Valley enjoyed a 2-0 start to the season handling their business in a pair of outings. Continue reading

Close games all around on a boys Tuesday night with a pair of contests decided in overtime.

Stillwater 52  Cambridge 48: Jared D’Aloia dropped 32 points to lead Stillwater to the overtime victory over the Indians.  Stillwater led 26-21 at the half but Cambridge outscored the Warriors 13-2 in the third period to take the lead into the final eight minutes where Stillwater came back to force extra minutes. We said here yesterday that the Mechanicville Red Raiders would be a tough out the rest of the way and that certainly was the case last night in a home run with Hoosic Valley, but the Indians are, well the Indians, and they prevailed, outscoring the Raiders in the overtime session to claim the 51 48 victory. With the last week of the regular season upon us there’s a girls team in the Wasaren that has quietly gone about their business and put together a nice campaign.  While traditional powers Tamarac, Hoosic Valley, and Hoosick Falls fill the first three slots in the league standings the Red Raiders of Mechanicville sit in fourth place with an impressive 10-4 league mark. Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week

redraider

Congratulations to Mechanicville’s Julia Amedeo on being named the Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.

In her last three outings Julia scored 17 points in a win at Waterford, tallied 12 points in a home “W” over Cambridge, and exploded for 23 points in a road victory over Greenwich on Friday night.

The senior Raider, averaging just under 10 points per contest, has scored 67 points in her last four games and is a big reason why Mechanicville is enjoying a fine season at 10-4 in league play.

Congratulations to Julia, our newest Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.

Friday Roundup; Valley Girls, Panther Boys Post Wins

When we talked yesterday about the matchups between Hoosick Falls and Hoosic Valley one thing we didn’t discuss is how difficult it is to step on a good team’s home floor and secure a “W”.  Both the Indian girls and Falls boys handled their business at home Friday night in a  pair of games that highlighted a full slate of action in the Wasaren.
