Soccer Sectional Results

Four Wasaren boys soccer teams took the field on Tuesday in Class C play-in games and at day’s end three squads seasons came to an end while the Mountaineers of Berlin stayed alive, posting a 1-0 decision over Middleburgh.

Catholic Central 7  Saratoga Catholic 1:  The Crusaders jumped out to a 3-0 lead at the half and cruised to the victory over Saratoga Catholic.

Lucas Kania scored a hat trick to lead Catholic Central, while the Saints Luke Apy scored the lone goal for Spa Catholic with a second half strike.

 

Meekel Christian Academy 3  Hoosick Falls 0:  Lens Lima with two goals and Dan McCarty with a single strike led Meekel past the Panthers of Hoosick Falls.

 

Fort Plain 1  Hoosic Valley 0:  No other info at this time

Berlin 1  Middleburgh 0:  No other info at this time

Stillwater Girls Earn League Title

The Wasaren girls regular season wrapped up on Saturday in Mechanicville with a full day of crossover games and the championship match between Stillwater and Hoosic Valley.

Stillwater 4  Hoosic Valley 1:  The Warriors complete an undefeated regular season by capturing the Wasaren title with the win over Hoosic Valley.

Brooke Pickett connected on all four goals to lead the Warriors who with the win move to 15-0-1 and now prepare for a deep post season run.

Casey Bugbee scored the lone goal for the Indians who wrap the regular season at 11-4-1 and will be a tough out in the upcoming Section II tournament. Continue reading

Mechanicville 6  Stillwater 2:  The Red Raiders improve to 11-0 in league play with the victory over Stillwater in the 8th annual Indian Cup match.

Jeff Luce and Chris Ciccarelli with two goals each, and Zach Rapaccioulo and Brandt St.Gelais with single strikes led the Mechanicville attack.

Jack Rubenstein and Nick Mincher connected with goals for Stillwater. Continue reading

Girls Soccer

Stillwater 3  Mechanicville 3:  The Warriors jumped out to a 2-0 advantage at the half but the Red Raiders stormed back after the break with three goals to force the tie.

Brooke Pickett connected on two first half strikes, and added a third goal after intermission to lead the Stillwater attack.

Ryleigh Hopeck tallied a pair of second half goals for Mechanicville with Jada Brown’s goal, late in the half knotting the match at 3-3.

The First Half of the Fall

It seems like just yesterday it was late August with it’s heat and humidity but in less than a week we’ll turn the calendar to October and with that our high school fall sports season enters it’s second half.  A good time to take a look at what’s played out for the schools in the Wasaren, in the sports that they play. Stillwater 2  Hoosic Valley 0:  The two squads battled through a scoreless first half but after the break the Warriors found the range with a pair of goals to secure the home victory over the Indians.

Paige Brinsko off a Teya Staie find put Stillwater on the board at the 45:04 mark and later in the half Keelyn Peacock found Staie who finished at the 76:08 mark, more than enough offense as the Stillwater “D” and keeper Kiersten Conroy ( 3 saves), combined to pitch the shutout. Continue reading

Soccer Results

A full slate of action for girls soccer played out on the fields across the Wasaren Thursday afternoon as the regular season moves into it’s second half.  The Warriors of Stillwater sit atop the league standings adding another “W” yesterday to remain unbeaten through nine outings.

Stillwater 11  Berlin 1:  Seven different Warriors found the range as Stillwater coasted to the easy victory in Berlin.

Brooke Pickett with a hat trick, Keelyn Peacock with a pair of goals and three assists, and Devon Wagner with two scoring strikes led the Stillwater assault.

Teya Staie added a goal and assisted on three as the Warriors with the win  go to 9-0 on the season. Continue reading

Boys Soccer

Mechanicville 3  Cambridge 0:  The Red Raiders stay perfect in league play winning their sixth in a row with a 3-0 shutout of Cambridge in Mechanicville on Wednesday.

Jeff Luce got things started for the Raiders, connecting from 30 yards out with a first half strike and a 1-0 lead.

Next it was Chris Ciccarelli finishing with a header off of a Luce corner kick and Mechanicville took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Justin Pugliese capped the scoring in the match finding the range for the Raiders with 2:00 left and sealing the home victory for Mechanicville.

Zach White with six saves and the Red Raiders defense earned the shutout. Continue reading

Girls soccer and golf took center stage in the league on Tuesday with one-sided affairs the norm on the soccer fields, while a team fell from the unbeaten ranks in golf.

Stillwater 7  Tamarac 2:  The high powered attack of the Warriors was on full display Tuesday night as Stillwater jumped out to a 6-1 lead at the half with five different players delivering scoring strikes.

Teya Staie and Keelyn Peacock led the onslaught for Stillwater with two goals each, while Kate McEvoy, Paige Brinsko and Devon Wagner all tallied as well in the match played under the lights in Stillwater. Continue reading
