Boys Soccer:
Tamarac 5 Hoosick Falls 4 OT: The Bengals Max Ali scored four goals, his last coming early in the second overtime session, leading Tamarac the narrow “W” over Hoosick Falls.
Ali beat two defenders and found the back of the net in the second overtime capping a four goal outing, with Miles Ednie also finding the range for Tamarac.
Zach Cahill, Connor Jones, Matt LaPorte, Daniel Louis Charles and all tallied in the match for Hoosick Falls.

Friday Morning Roundup
Boys and girls soccer along with a pair of golf matches played out on Thursday in the Wasaren as all sports ramp up with football kicking off this weekend.
Boys Soccer
Stillwater 5 Waterford 4 OT: The Warriors Grant Baker scored a hat trick before the break, and saved the game-winner for the overtime period, as Stillwater got past the Fordians of Waterford.
Josh Luca added a first half score for the Warriors, while Waterford connected on a Hunter Guertin PK and a strike from Jack O’Brien off a corner as the teams went to halftime with Stillwater holding a 4-2 advantage.
Second half goals from Tyler Galanearu and Zach Soden knotted things at 4-4 setting up Bakers game-winner in the extra session.
With the win Stillwater improves to 1-0, 3-0 while Waterford goes to 0-1, 0-1 with the tough loss. Continue reading

Cambridge Girls Place Second in Schuylerville Classic
The Cambridge girls track and field team earned a second place finish at the Schuylerville Classic on Friday night. The host Black Horses won the meet with 104 points followed by Cambridge with 88 points, pacing the 17 team event.
Greenwich (51 1/2), Mechanicville (47), and Saratoga Catholic (36) held down places 5-7.
Individual winners from Wasaren squads included Cambridge’s Miranda Seacord in the 100, Spa Catholic’s Grace O’Reilly 400, Greenwich’s Annabel Gregg 800, Cambridge’s Vanessa Evans 1 mile, Cambridge’s Ruth Nolan 400 hurdles, Mechanicville’s Jade Brown high jump, and Greenwich’s Danielle McFee discus.
The Mechanicville 800 meter relay team also earned a first place finish.
On the boys side of things South Glens Falls claimed the title with 100 points. Cambridge (44), Mechanicville (24), and Spa Catholic (15) finished 7th, 8th and 10th respectively. Greenwich with (7) and Berlin with 5 points rounded out the Wasaren teams.
Cambridge’s Jordan Brown earned a first place finish in the 400 meter hurdles for the Indians.

Saints Clinch Battenkill Division
With the regular season winding down in the Wasaren the Saints of Saratoga Catholic clinched the Battenkill Division on Wednesday posting a win over Hoosic Valley in softball action.
The Hudson division is still up for grabs and a trio of teams with a shot at the division, Greenwich, Tamarac, and Mechanicville, all helped themselves with Wednesday “W’s” as well.

The Saints jumped out to a 7-0 advantage after two, and closed out the Valley to clinch the Battenkill Division.

Greenwich plates five in each of the first two frames, and McAuliffe spins a beauty as the Witches improve to 9-2 in league play.

The Raiders pushed across single runs in the third and sixth frames to earn the narrow decision over the Falls.

The Bengals broke a 4-4 tie with a run in the top of the sixth and held on for the road victory over the Witches. With the “W” Tamarac goes to 9-3 in league play just a game behind the 10-2 Witches.

Wasaren Sportsnet Players of the Week
Congratulations to Greenwich’s Carson Mosher and Hoosick Falls’ Abby Philpott on being named Wasaren Sportsnet Players of the Week.
Mosher threw six strong innings in a 9-7 win over Stillwater last Tuesday and added a single, and double with an RBI at the plate.
On Friday in an 11-3 win over Warrensburg Carson ripped a pair of doubles and drove in three, and doubled down this past Monday again plating three runs on two doubles in the Witches 7-6 victory over Waterford.
Philpott picked up three wins from the circle on the week starting with a 5-hit, shutout over Stillwater on Friday. Abby also had a pair of hits and drove in three in the 12-0 win.
On Sunday in the first round of the Charles Weeden Memorial Tournament Philpott scattered six hits and fanned eight in the Falls 4-2 win over Cambridge.
This past Monday Abby threw another gem, a 3-hit, 11 strikeout performance, blanking Berlin 12-0.

A Remarkable Season Comes to an End
In a game as close throughout as you would expect a state semifinal to be the Indians of Cambridge fell to Millbrook 56-52 on Friday morning at Hudson Valley Community College in the Class C Final Four.
Separated by no more than a handful of points over four periods of play the two squads were tied at the quarter break, with Cambridge holding a 27-26 halftime lead, and Millbrook a 28-27 advantage heading to the final frame.
Millbrook held it’s biggest cushion of the game at 49-43 with 1:27 remaining. But Cambridge refused to go quietly trimming the lead to 50-49 with :14 left.
Four Sam McKenna free throws extended the Blazers advantage to 54-49 but the Indians Sophie Phillips knocked down a triple, going glass with 3.6 seconds setting up an all important inbounds play for Millbrook who was able to get the ball to McKenna, who calmly knocked down both free throws to seal the victory.
Erin Fox led Millbrook, (21-3), with a game-high 22 points with Kaitlin Dailey adding 13 for the Blazers who advance to the Class C state finals.
For Cambridge their three freshman all posted doubles with Sophie Phillips scoring 17 points, Fiona Mooney 13 points, and Lily Phillips adding 10 points for the Indians who finish at 25-2 with a Section II and regional title as well as a Final Four appearance, highlighting a remarkable winter campaign in Cambridge.
