Here is our Monday morning podcast where we take a look at league standings, the most recent action in the Wasaren and also name our newest player of the week.

Tamarac 81   Greenwich 64

Leading Scorers:  Bengals – Joey Poulin 27        James Blake II 23        Jack Casey 19 4 3’s        Witches – Joe Skiff 28 4 3’s        Jacob Ziehm 13 3 3’s        Ryan Ingber 12 

Key Stat:  Tamarc outscored the Witches 18-6 over the final eight minutes.

Take Away:  The Bengals built a 41-31 halftime advantage, but Greenwich trimmed the margin to five at 63-58 entering the fourth period where Tamarac closed things out to earn their 10th Wasaren victory in as many outings.  Tamarac connected eight times from beyond the arc and put three players in doubles, wrapping up a day of basketball on the Bengals Big Red Day Event.  

Tamarac 51   Johnstown 10

Leading Scorers:  Bengals – Abbie Yetto 14            Sir Bills – Hisert 5

Key Stat:  Tamarac held the Sir Bills to just two, first-half points.  

Take Away:  The Bengals put 10 players in the scoring column and continue their fine season, moving to 8-1, 11-2 with the nonleague “W” on Big Red Day in Tamarac.  

Waterford 75   Cambridge 46  (Friday)

Leading Scorers:  Fordians – Derrick Pontore 41        Matt Soden 12          Anthony Scunziano 10             Cambridge Thomas MacDonough 16        Isaac Toleman 15        

Key Stat:  Waterford led 25-12 at the end of period one.  

Take Away:  The Fordians rode their first quarter advantage over quarters two and three and closed with a 24-9 final frame in earning the home victory on Friday night.  Pontore pours in 41 on one free throw and 20 two-point goals, twice as many as the Cambridge squad managed.  

Girls

Cambridge 46   Waterford 27

Leading Scorers:  Cambridge – Schuylar Nolan 14      Tristan Crandall 10       Alexis Austin 8, 14 rebounds          Fordians – Rachel McOmber 10

Key Stat:  Cambridge outscored the Fordians 35-13 over the middle two frames.

Take Away:  On senior night in Cambridge their trio of seniors, Nolan, Crandall and Austin, led the way in the win at home over Waterford.

Hoosick Falls 59   Spa Catholic 34

Leading Scorers:  Falls – Jaedyn Roberson 22       Tatum Hickey 11         Saints – Grace Shaefer 8

Key Stat:  The Panthers jumped out to a 12-2 lead after the first period.

Take Away:  The Falls won every quarter in notching the comfortable road win.  

Emma Willard 59   Stillwater 38  

Leading Scorers:  Jespers – Audrey Shields 16      Aishan Raj 16      Margarette Howland 10          Warriors – Miranda Price 21 3 3’s

Key Stat:  The Jespers led 18-6 after one.

Take Away:  Emma Willard built an early lead, but the two teams played evenly over quarters two and three, before the Jespers close things out with a 17-5 fourth period to earn the home victory.

Mechanicville 56   Hoosic Valley 20

Leading Scorers:  Red Raiders – Tanner Eiseman 14      Ali Kenyon 11               Valley – Lainey Bochette 5       Megan Rice 5

Key Stat:  Mechanicville took control with a 22-2 first frame.

Take Away:  The Raiders used the opening quarter cushion to cruise to the road “W” in Schaghticoke.

Greenwich 52   Tamarac 36

Leading Scorers:  Witches – Norah Niesz 14       Grace Autiello 14 3 3’s          Bengals – Kayla Beaudoin 10

Key Stat:  Trailing 12-7 after the first, Greenwich outscored Tamarac 31-17 over the next two periods.

Take Away:  In a low scoring affair between the top two squads in the Wasaren, Greenwich, after trailing early, slowly pulled away for the home “W” to remain undefeated on the season.  

Boys

Hoosic Valley 56   Mechanicville 46

Leading Scorers:  Valley Tyler Eddy 23 6 3’s        Chris Jones 14       Isaiah Eckler 13           Red Raiders – Fen Egan 11        Tyler Eiseman 11

Key Stat:  The Valley outscored Mechanicville 16-4 in the final period.

Take Away: The visitors from Mechanicville led 42-40 with eight minutes to play, but the Indians rallied with a big fourth quarter to notch the victory in Schaghticoke.

Spa Catholic 43   Hoosick Falls 41

Leading Scorers:  Saints – Ronan Rowe 15          Panthers – Jake Sparks 11       Aiden Fleming 10

Key Stat:  The Saints held a 9-5 advantage in made threes.

Take Away:  Trailing 32-31 heading to the fourth Spa Catholic did just enough over the final frame to post the road “W”.

Tamarac 62   Stillwater 39

Leading Scorers:  Myanna Faraj 20 4 3’s       Kayla Beaudoin 14       Abbie Yetto 12         Warriors – Miranda Price 17 3 3’s

Key Stat:  The Bengals outscored Stillwater 37-15 over the middle two frames.

Take Away: Tied 10-10 after the first eight minutes Tamarac took control with a 23-9 second period, on their way to the road victory.  The Bengals bottomed nine triples and put three players in double in running their season mark to 8-0, 10-1.  Tamarac returns to action tonight when they’ll host the undefeated Witches of Greenwich.

Tamarac 81   Stillwater 61

Key Stat:  Tamarac hung 53 points on the board over the middle two periods.

Take Away:  Trailing 20-9 after the first, Tamarac used a 23-0 second quarter to gain the lead and a third frame advantage of 30-18 to assume control in posting the comeback win in Stillwater.  Tamarac, in typical fashion, scored in the 80’s with four players reaching double figures.  The 9-0, 13-2 Bengals return to the floor on Saturday for a 7:15 run with Greenwich.

Greenwich 58   Schuylerville 51

Leading Scorers:  Witches – Jacob Ziehm 25 3 3’s        Joe Skiff 18                      Black Horses – Luke Sherman 24

Key Stat:  The Witches held Schuylerville to 16 first-half points.

Take Away:  Greenwich won each of the first three periods and held off a late, fourth quarter charge from the Black Horses to earn the non-league victory in Greenwich. 

Cambridge 62   Salem 34

Leading Scorers:  Cambridge – Isaac Toleman 16       Baxter Mattison 15        Isaac Wilkins 13        Mason MacDougal 11          Generals – Antwon Webster 14

Take Away:  Cambridge picks up the nonleague “W” at home, for their first win of the season. 

Bishop Gibbons 58   Saratoga Catholic 19

Leading Scorers:  Gibbons – K. Aleron 20            M. Wylie 18        Saints – Danielle Villaro 8  

Key Stat:  Bishop Gibbons held the Saints to single numbers in every quarter.

Take Away:  Gibbons won every period in notching the one-sided decision in Saratoga.  

Tamarac 87   Bishop Gibbons 65

Leading Scorers:  Bengals – Joey Poulin 35      James Blake II 23              Gibbons – Jaquare Jones 17       Zackari Archie 16       Esiasyn Starr 12

Key Stat:  Tamarac won each of the first three periods.

Take Away:  The Bengals started with a 24-16 first quarter and slowly pulled away for the nonleague win over Gibbons on a night where Joey Poulin reached the 1000 career point milestone, becoming Tamarac’s all-time leading scorer.  Poulin, a starter since his freshman year, reaches the scoring mark in his 70th varsity game.  The senior guard added nine rebounds and seven assists in the game as well.  

Hoosic Valley 63   Hoosick Falls 57

Leading Scorers:  Valley – Isaiah Eckler 21 5 3’s       Chris Jones 12       Logan Reilly 11       Tyler Eddy 10       Panthers – Jake Sparks 18        Andrew Sparks 13        Aiden Fleming 11 3 3’s

Key Stat:  An 18-12 first period for the Valley was the widest margin of any quarter for either squad.

Take Away:  In a close game throughout, the Indians held a slim 29-27 lead at halftime and hung on for the narrow, home “W”.  The Valley put four players in doubles in moving to 13-1, 8-1 on the season, while the Falls, who saw three players post doubles, goes to 9-6, 6-3 with the loss.  

Mechanicville 55   Voorheesville 48

Leading Scorers:  Red Raiders – Fen Egan 22       Cruz Goverski 11       Carson Carrow 18       Brady Eitleman 14 4 3’s      Seth Wilson 10

Key Stat:  The Raiders held a big advantage from the free throw line converting on 15 of 23 while the Blackbirds managed just 4 of 9 from the stripe.

Take Away:  In a game tied at 38-38 after three quarters of play, the visiting Raiders used a 17-10 final frame to claim the well-earned road “W”.  

Stillwater 88   Waterford 48

Leading Scorers:  Warriors – Jaxon Mueller 27     James Cocozzo 15         Lukas Lilac 14        Mattias Lemerande 11          Fordians – Derrick Pontore 17        Matt Soden 10

Key Stat:  Stillwater ran out to a 31-6 lead in the first eight minutes.

Take Away:  The Warriors put four players in doubles and cruised to the home victory as the #8 Class C team in the state improved to 13-2 overall on the season.

Key Stat:  Tamarac jumped out to a 21-13 lead after eight minutes of play.

Take Away:  The Bengals won each of the first three quarters building a 61-37 advantage heading into the final frame. Poulin’s 33 points puts the senior guard just 25 points away from the 1000 career points milestone.  With the win Tamarac moves to 11-2, 8-0 on the season and extends their Wasaren winning streak to 27.   

Hoosic Valley 87   Berne Knox 55

Leading Scorers:  Valley – Logan Reilly 23        Isaiah Eckler 23 3 3’s           BK – AJ Wright 25       Dayne Coates 14

Key Stat:  Leading 39-29 at the break the Valley put this one away with a 27-9 third period.

Take Away:  Hoosic Valley stacks their second win in two nights at their Schaghticoke venue, taking control with a big third frame, on a night highlighted by senior guard Logan Reilly scoring his 1000th career point. Reilly becomes the fourth boy’s player in Hoosic Valley history to reach the milestone.  With the victory the Valley improves to 12-1, 7-1 on the year and returns to action on Tuesday night hosting the Panthers of Hoosick Falls in a 7:30 run.  

Hoosic Valley 109   Cambridge 48

Leading Scorers:  Valley – Isaiah Eckler 31 5 3’s       Logan Reilly 21      Gabe Coffin 15 3 3’s       Lane Carner 12         Cambridge – Isaac Toleman 15       Mason MacDougal 12

Key Stat:  The Valley ran out to a 36-8 lead after the first period.

Take Away:  The 8th ranked Class C team in the state cruised on their home floor, drilling 10 triples and winning every quarter with 11 players scoring and four reaching doubles.  With the win the Indians move to 11-1, 7-1 on the season.

Stillwater 80   Spa Catholic 42

Leading Scorers:  Warriors – Jaxon Mueller 32       Lukas Lilac 18 3 3’s           Saints – Ronan Rowe 12

Key Stat:  The Warriors outscored the Saints 51-21 over the middle two periods. 

Take Away:  Stillwater ride’s a big night by Mueller and a good defensive effort to the home “W” improving to 11-2, 7-1 on the year.
