Rick Lyons Staff Writer: A full slate of action in the Wasaren tonight with every school scheduled for a boys and girls run. Let’s take a look at the match ups and who I think will post “W’s”.
Mechanicville 3-0, 4-1 @ Granville 2-1, 2-5: Mechanicville comes in off a 70-41 pasting of Tamarac on Tuesday, while the Horde dropped their first league decision 70-40 to Stillwater. Adam Dunn scores just under 20 a night for the Raiders, and Matthew Fuller drops 17.5 for the Horde. Dunn has more experienced help. I like the Raiders.
Cambridge 0-3, 3-3 @ Greenwich 1-1, 2-2: Greenwich has had trouble scoring the ball averaging in the mid-forties, while Cambridge at times has scored well led by Daniel Genevick who buckets 21 nightly. They both need a win here, and the Witches at home get it.
Hoosic Valley 0-2, 1-4 @ Tamarac 1-2, 2-3: Two teams looking for traction as the Valley comes in searching for a league win, and the Bengals were mauled by the Raiders on Tuesday. Look for a low scoring affair, and the visitors go home with a win.
Stillwater 3-0, 6-0 @ Hoosick Falls 2-1, 2-1: A good one tonight at the Falls as the Warriors roll in undefeated, and the Panthers with just one loss, a three point affair to Mechanicville. Numerous players on both squads can score the ball. Mitchell Wayand, Zack Travis, and Jared D’Aloia combined for 62 against Granville on Tuesday. Connor McCart, Alex Mendez, and Guy Milliman, lead the Panther attack, McCart coming off a 23 point effort against Cambridge on Tuesday. The Falls is tough at home, and they can guard. Panthers in a close one.
Granville 0-3, 3-3 @ Mechanicville 1-2, 2-3: Granville comes in off a 44-33 loss to Stillwater on Wednesday, and the Red Raiders were crushed by Tamarac 61-27. The Horde’s Alexis Smith and Gabby Hunt both shoot it well from deep and if the pair get it going tonight, Granville could ride home with their first league “W”.
Greenwich 0-3, 3-3 @ Cambridge 2-1, 4-2: The Indians are off to a nice start, while surprisingly Greenwich seeks it’s first league victory. The Witches have had a tough schedule early with Tamarac, Mechanicville, and the Valley. Greenwich gets in the win column tonight.
Hoosick Falls 3-0, 4-1 @ Stillwater 2-1, 3-4: The Panthers are rolling with wins over Mechanicville, Hoosic Valley and Cambridge. The Falls can score but their defense tonight will be the deciding factor as they improve to 4-0 tonight with the win.
Tamarac 3-0, 3-1 @ Hoosic Valley 2-1, 4-1: The premier league run tonight in Schaghticoke between two programs who once again will contend for the Wasaren crown. The Bengals have a potent attack, putting up 55 points nightly, with Emily Erickson and Hannah Krieger leading the way. The Valley as always hang their hat on the defensive side of things allowing their opponents just 32 points per contest. They did however score 21 points in the final period Wednesday against Greenwich by far their best quarter of the year. The Valley defense is a given, and if some offense for the Indians shows up as well, they’ll send the Bengals back to Clums Corners with the Ziggy.
