Good Opening Night For The Wasaren


As most everyone knows, the Wasaren is a highly competitive league year in and year out and when sectional play rolls around the conference teams are a handful for opponents.  That proved true again last night as this year’s sectional tournament got underway with five league squads taking the floor in opening round runs.


Mechanicville 53   Watervliet 39

Leading Scorers: Red Raiders – Madison Harrington 12   Sammy Pasinella 11    ‘Vliet – Ali Changa 17

Key Stat: After missing their first 13 shot attempts and falling behind 22-5 midway through the second, the Raiders out scored the Canoneers 24-8 over the final eight minutes to post the come from behind “W”.

Granville 60   Johnstown 50

Leading Scorers: Horde – Trace Bourn 20    Morgan Williams 13    Matthew Fuller 10     Sir Bills – Devin Boyle 14   Jamal Vasquez 10

Key Stat: An 18-13 fourth quarter and a 17 of 20 effort from the foul line fueled the Horde victory.

Hoosic Valley 60    Cairo-Durham 57

Leading Scorers: Valley – Dan Joslin 27   Issac Sanchez 11   BP – Kolby Phillips 16   Tom McGahanis 15   Peter Massman 11   Jacob Hall 11

Key Stat: The Indians held an 8-3 advantage from deep, with Joslin bottoming five triples on the night.

Cambridge 45   Corinth 37

Leading Scorers: Indians – Shawn Lemieux 12   Daniel Genevick 10   Kordell Benson 10

Key Stat: Down 28-24 after three periods, the Indians out scored the Tomahawks 21-9 in the fourth to post the win.

Schuylerville 79   Tamarac 47

Leading Scorers: Black Horses – Will Griffen 20   Clay Patrick 12    Bengals – Anthony Zotto 17   Mike Marrow 12

Key Stat: Schuylerville put 30 points on the board in the first period, led 53-23 at the half, and cruised to the opening round “W”.
