Sectional Round Up

stillwater warriorFour Wasaren boys teams, and a pair of girls squads from the league were in action last night trying to survive and advance in the Section II basketball tournament.  Here’s how they fared.


Stillwater 52   Ichabod Crane 48

Leading Scorers: Warriors – Mitchel Wayand 23    Jared D’Aloia 11    Riders – Brad Kittle 16   Peter Volkman 14

Key Stat: In a close game throughout, Stillwater led 37-36 heading to the final frame, and late in the fourth a Brad Anderson bucket off an in bounds play gave the Warriors the lead and ultimately the “W”.

Next Up: #10 Stillwater faces #2 Glens Falls, Friday at Shenendehowa @ 6:30.


Broadalbin Perth 56   Hoosic Valley 47

Leading Scorers: Perth – Mike Mann 17      Vincenzo DiCaterino 15   Colby Hortz 10     Indians – Matt Espey 15    Dan Joslin 12

Key Stat: Perth held a 38-33 advantage going to the final eight minutes and held on for the victory over a gritty Valley squad.

Next Up: Broadalbin Perth meets Schalmont on Friday at Shen @ 5 p.m.


Hudson 80   Granville 43

Leading Scorers: Blue Hens – Daniel Folds 17   Mike Alert 14   Zachary Hedgepeth 10    Horde – Gavyn LeClair 13

Key Stat: Hudson got their high-powered attack going early, leading 44-20 at intermission, and posted the easy victory to advance.

Next Up: Hudson faces Voorheesville on Friday @ HVCC at 6:30.


Berne-Knox 65   Cambridge 57

Leading Scorers: Knox- Zach Hilton 21   Slade Pulliam 20   Justin Houck 19    Indians – Kerdell Benson 20

Key Stat:  The trio of Hilton, Pulliam, and Houck put 60 points on the board, enough to get past a determined Cambridge club.

Next Up: Berne-Knox faces Mayfield on Friday at HVCC @ 5 p.m.



Cambridge 54    Rennsselaer 28

Leading Scorers: Indians – Helen Mooney 12    Rams – Tianna Dewer 7

Key Stat: Leading 24-13 at the half, the Indians out scored the Rams 17-5 in the third to put this one away.

Next Up: Cambridge will meet Berne-Knox  on Friday at Mekeel Christian @ 7:30.


Greenwich 63   Warrensburg 49

Leading Scorers: Witches – Olivia Barnes 24   Sabrina Whitehouse 14    Burghers – Brittany Frasier 16   Erin Langworthy 15   Megan Hughes 10

Key Stat: Greenwich held a 26-20 advantage at the half, built the lead to double figures midway through the third, and held that cushion the rest of the way.

Next Up: Greenwich will play at #2 Meekel Christain on Friday @ 6 p.m.
