Witches Earn Title Behind Whitehouse’s Gem

73_greenwichThe Greenwich baseball team needed a win on Thursday in Granville to clinch the Wasaren title and Lukas Whitehouse made it happen.  The senior pitcher threw a no-hitter while striking out nine as Greenwich posted an 11-0 victory to claim the league crown with a 13-1 mark.

On the softball side of things Greenwich and Hoosic Valley were both victorious and will share the Wasaren title with identical 12-2 records. 

Here’s a closer look at all the action on the final day of Wasaren play.

Greenwich 11  Granville 0

Winning Pitcher: Lukas Whitehouse

Leading Hitters: Witches – Cole Burgess 4-5,  Carson Mosher 3-4, 2b, 2 RBI’s

Key Stat: Whitehouse throw’s the no-no as the Witches wrap up the title in grand fashion.

 

Stillwater 8  Mechanicville 4

Winning Pitcher: Robbie Varvaro 9 K’s

Leading Hitters: Warriors – Tim Travis 3 1b’s, 2 RBI’s,   Luke Richardson 2 1b’s,  Sam Ryan 2 1b’s

Key Stat: Stillwater scored all eight of their runs in the bottom of the fourth to earn the victory and finish with a 4-10 mark in league play.

 

Softball

Greenwich 9  Granville 1

Winning Pitcher: Rachel Hall

Leading Hitters: Witches – Sabrina Whitehouse 4-4,  Rachel Hall 2 1b’s,     Horde – Gabby Hunt 1b, 2b

Key Stat: Greenwich led 5-0 after three frames giving Hall more than enough run support for the “W”.

 

Hoosic Valley 7  Cambridge 0

Winning Pitcher: Camille Coyne 9 K’s

Leading Hitters: Valley – Cierra Casale 2-3, 2b,  Camille Coyne 2-3, RBI   Kate Kennelly 1b, 2 RBI’s    Indians – Miranda Seacord 1b,  Gabbie Woods 1b,  Hannah VanDeWater 1b

Key Stat: A five run first paved the way for the Valley, as they clinch a share of the Wasaren title, their first since 2008.

 

Tamarac 11 Hoosick Falls 1

Winning Pitcher: Grace Warrington

Leading Hitters: Bengals – Marissa Keeler 2b, HR,  Nicole Madigan 2-3, 2b, 3 RBI’s,  Tori Reinhard 2-4, 2 RBI’s    Falls – Erika Quackenbush 2-3,  Syd Miller 1-3

Key Stat: The Bengals bats pounded out six extra base hits on the afternoon, and led 7-0 after just two innings of play.
