Diamond Roundup; Spa Sweeps, Valley Downs Cambridge


Some good Monday matchups in the league especially on the softball side where Saratoga Catholic played a pair with Stillwater, and Hoosic Valley traveled to Cambridge in a meeting between two teams near the top of the Wasaren standings.


Hoosic Valley 11  Cambridge 3

Winning Pitcher:  Camille Coyne 13 K’s, 0 BB’s, 5 hits

Leading Hitters:  Valley – Ashley Madigan 4-5, 2 runs    Taylor Champagne 2-4, 2B, 3 RBI’s    Camille Coyne 2B, 2 RBI’s     Indians – Miranda Seacord 1B, 2B

Summary:  Leading 2-1 entering the sixth, the Valley plated nine runs over the final two frames to notch the victory over the Indians of Cambridge.  The Valley ripped 14 hits in support of Coyne who was dominant from the circle.  With the win Hoosic Valley improves to 6-3 in league play, while Cambridge slips to 4-3 on the year.


Saratoga Catholic 12  Stillwater 4

Winning Pitcher:  Molly O’Reilly 7 IP, 5 hits, 5 K’s

Leading Hitters:  Saints – Sabrina Johnson 2-4, 2 runs,    Theresa Hajos 2-3, 3 RBI’s    Brigid Perry 2-4, 2 RBI’s     Warriors – Danika Svendsen 2-3, RBI

Summary:  The Saints scored nine times over the final four innings to post the come from behind “W”.  Spa combined 14 hits and seven Warrior miscues in moving to 4-4 on the year.


Saratoga Catholic 10  Stillwater 3

Winning Pitcher:  Victoria Alford 5 IP, 1 Hit, 11 K’s

Leading Hitters:  Spa – Molly O’Reilly 2B    Mari Shaw 3B

Summary:  The Saints put this one away with seven runs in the fourth frame, more than enough cushion for Alford who was in control from the circle.


Hoosick Falls 19  Waterford 2

Winning Pitcher:  Abby Philpott

Leading Hitters:  Falls – Lily Abbott 4-4, 2 3B’s    Syd Miller 3-4, 3B, 5 RBI’s    Mac Ellis 1B, 3B, 2 RBI’s

Summary:  All Panthers here as they bang out 16 hits and plate 10 in the third inning for the easy win, moving to 4-3 in league play.



Waterford 2  Hoosick Falls 1

Winning Pitcher:  Robert Walek

Leading Hitters:  Fordians – Mike Castracani 1-2, RBI    Nikilo Ghidei game winning RBI    Connor Houle 6.2 IP, 1 ER, 6 K’s     Falls – Ryan Sanders 2-3, 2B, RBI    Cody Hodges 2-3    Andrew Stevens 2-3      Brandon Decker complete game, 2 hits, 7 K’s

Summary:  In a pitcher’s duel between Houle and Decker, the Fordians pushed across the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh to claim the “W” and with the win move to 6-4 in the Wasaren.
