Sectional Play Underway

Section II wasted little time in getting their spring tournaments underway this year with some schools playing on the same day that pairings were announced.  This afternoon first round games in softball will be played in Class B and C, while second round baseball contests will also play out in those classifications.

Three Wasaren Class C baseball squads advanced with W’s in round one on Tuesday.  #9 Greenwich throttled #8 Bishop Gibbons 15-1 with Bailey Winch picking up the mound victory throwing five innings allowing three hits and one run.  The Witches will travel to Rensselaer today to take on the top seeded Rams.

#3 Hoosic Valley posted a 5-1 victory over #14 Berne-Knox in their opening round contest, and this afternoon the Valley will entertain #6 Canajoharie, 7-6 winners over Waterford in round one.

In Class B #8 Tamarac got past Ravena 7-3 in the opening round, with Jake Scharnott earning the win from the bump allowing three hits while fanning eight in five innings of work.  Today the Bengals travel to Saratoga to take on another Wasaren school the top seeded Saints of Saratoga Catholic.

Five league softball teams will take the field this afternoon in Class C first round action.  #1 Greenwich will host #17 Spa Catholic, 6-1 winners over Granville in a play-in game on Wednesday.  Victoria Alvord fanned 11 in picking up the win from the circle.

The always dangerous Red Raiders of Mechanicville secured the #3 seed in the tournament and will welcome the #14 squad from Galway.

#10 Canajoharie will travel to #7 Hoosic Valley to take on the Indians, while the #11 Indians of Cambridge will hit the road as well to square off with #6 Greenville.
