A Tough Day For the Wasaren


Three league teams were in action on Wednesday with Saratoga Catholic playing in the Class B baseball final, while Hoosic Valley and Greenwich took the field in Class C softball semifinals.

The Saints and Witches, top seeds in their respective classifications, and the Indians playing as well as anyone of late, all poised to take the next step in the sectional tournament. 

But on this day their sectional runs came to an end with all three squads falling in season-ending losses.

Albany Academy 12  Saratoga Catholic 4

Winning Pitcher:  Ben Seller

Leading Hitters:  Academy – Brett Young 2B    Ethan Duda 2B    E.J. Birch 2B     Saints – Zac Cronk 3-4, 2 2B’s

The Saints end a fine season with a 20-3 mark and a Wasaren championship.


Lake George 6  Greenwich 0

Winning Pitcher:  Rebecca Jaeger 2 -hit shutout 7 K’s

Leading Hitters:  Warriors – Maddie Mann 1B, 2B, 3 RBI’s    Rachel Layton 2B     Witches – Sabrina Whitehouse 3B

Greenwich finishes an exceptional year at 20-2 with a Wasaren title.


Greenville 4  Hoosic Valley 3

Winning Pitcher:  Ava Fitzmaurice 8 K’s

Leading Hitters:  Greenville – Calia Benning walk-off solo HR        Valley –  Taylor Champagne 3 1B’s, 2 RBI’s    Brianne Bogue 2 1B’s    Bridget Ryan 2 1B’s

Hoosic Valley ends another fine spring with a 15-7 mark.
