The annual Phil Waring Memorial Tournament was played on Saturday for the 30th time, and at day’s end Saratoga Catholic had earned it’s 15th tournament title.
Also on Saturday Waterford and Cambridge played baseball at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, and the Lady Indians of Cambridge met Mayfield in the Mayfield Softball Tournament.
Here’s how things played out.
Saratoga Catholic 5 Corinth 3
Winning Pitcher: Cadhan Awad 5 IP 1 Run 7 Hits 5 K’s
Leading Hitters: Saints – Nick Winslow 2-2, Dante Marin 2-2, 3B, 2 RBI’s Jake Hart 2-3, 2B, RBI Tomahawks – Colt Guilder 2-3, 2B Jacob Yanku 2-4
A four-run bottom of the first gave Awad a working cushion, more than enough for the Saints hurler as Spa Catholic secures the win in the first round of the Phil Waring Memorial Tournament.
Saratoga Catholic 5 Schuylerville 0
Winning Pitcher: Terel Tillman
Leading Hitters: Saints – Nick Winslow 2-3, 2B, 2 RBI’s Terel Tillman 1-3, 2 RBI’s
Tillman, Dante Marin and Dylan Custer combine for a tree-hit shutout of Schuylerville in the championship game of the Waring Tourney. With the “W” the Saints improve to 9-0 on the year.
Waterford 4 Cambridge 1
Winning Pitcher: Connor Houle 7 IP 2 Hits 10 K’s
Leading Hitters: Fordians – Connor Houle 2-3, 2B, 4 RBI’s Michael Talavera 2-4
Houle goes the distance in a strong pitching performance leading the Fordians to the victory at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown.

Cambridge 5 Mayfield 2
Winning Pitcher: Gabbie Woods
Leading Hitters: Indians – Rhiannon Darling 2 1B’s, RBI Miranda Seacord 1B, 3B Victoria Dupuis 2 2B’s, 3 RBI’s Jordyn Griffith 2 1B’s
Cambridge notches the win in the first round of the Mayfield Softball Tournament behind a quality effort by Woods from the circle. The championship game between Cambridge and Amsterdam unfortunately was wiped out by rain.
It was Connor Houle for Waterford Not Chris
