Stillwater Tops Hoosic Valley

It’s been said in sports that it’s difficult to beat the same team three times in a given season.  Somebody forgot to tell the Warriors.

Stillwater scored three goals after the break to open up a close contest and post a 5-1 win over Hoosic Valley in a Section II, Class C semifinal at Mechanicville Monday night.

The Warriors struck first when Brooke Pickett, off a Kate McEvoy find, split the posts at the 19:38 mark for a 1-0 lead.

Hoosic Valley answered four minutes later when Lauren Reed found Sam Lanoue, who found the back of the net with the equalizer at the 23:57 mark.

Pickett gave the lead back to Stillwater with her second of the match with 7:00 remaining in the half,  and the teams headed to the break with the Warriors holding a 2-1 advantage.

After the intermission, Teya Staie converted off a Brooke Pickett find for a 3-1 Warriors lead at the 55:49 mark and les than a minute later it was Kate McEvoy’s turn, finishing off a Keelyn Pickett pass, giving Stillwater control and a 4-1 cushion,

Paige Brinsko rounded out the scoring with the final tally off the match, Kelly Moran picking up the assist.

The Indians of Hoosic Valley wrap up a fine season with a mark of 13-5-1.

With the win Stillwater improves to 19-0-1, and more importantly earn a spot in the Section II final against Schoharie on Wednesday at Mechanicville.
