Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week

cambridge pictureCongratulations to Cambridge basketball player Stasia Epler on being named Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.

The freshman guard scored seven points in a 58-33 win over Hoosick Falls on Tuesday but saved her best effort of the week for Friday night, pouring in 21 points, including five from behind the arc to lead the Indians to a come-from-behind 57-53 “W” over the Red Raiders of Mechanicville.

A big January Friday for Wasaren basketball as teams approach the midway point of the regular season.

Leading Scorers:  Indians – Emaleigh Peckham 18 (6 – 3-pointers)        Renee Serafin 12 Panthers – Logan Thayne 17

Key Stat:  The Valley extended their 25-22 halftime lead with a 15-6 third period, and rode the long ball prowess of Peckham who drilled 6 of 8 from deep.

Valley Tops Berlin


Hoosic Valley 59  Berlin 36

Leading Scorers:  Indians – Isaac Carlo 20        Logan Reilly 11        Mountaineers – Kane Roman 13

Key Stat:  The Valley took control with  a 37-12 advantage over the middle two periods including a 20-4 third quarter where Carlo poured in 14 points.  With the win the Indians improve to 3-3, 5-6 on the year, while Berlin slips to 0-6, 1-8 with the loss.

Next Up:  Berlin travels to Stillwater tonight to face the Warriors while Hoosic Valley is on the road for a run with the Panthers of Hoosick Falls in a father, son coaching matchup between Mike, longtime mentor of the Falls and his son Alex, first year head coach at the Valley.

Fordians, Warriors Post Wins


Just two games were played in the Wasaren on Wednesday as Mother Nature wiped more than half of the schedule.  In the two runs that avoided postponement Stillwater and Waterford notched the early January “W’s”.

Waterford 75  Spa Catholic 69

Leading Scorers:  Fordians – Bobby Valigorski 19        Michael Talavera 19        Evan Fairclough 18        TJ Kelley 12       Saints – Jake Welcome 21        Ryan McCarroll 12     Nick Condry 11

Key Stat:  The Fordians connected on seven triples and took control over the middle two periods to post the win and move to 4-3, 7-4 on the year.


Stillwater 71  Tamarac 67

Leading Scorers:  Warriors – Grant Baker 17       Brian McNeil 15       Scott Travis 12  Bengals – Jacob DeFreest 22       Bo Catherwood 14       Frank Zotto 11

Key Stat:  A 40-27 advantage over the middle two frames gave the Warriors enough cushion to withstand a fourth quarter rally by the Bengals and notch the “W” to even their league mark at 3-3.

Key Stat:  Cambridge won every quarter and opened things up after the break outscoring the Falls 32-13 in the second half.

Leading Scorers:  Bengals – Emily Erickson 26        Warriors – Marley Mueller 19

Key Stat:  Trailing 14-6 after the first period, the Bengals clamped down defensively holding Stillwater to single digits in the final three quarters and allowing just three Warriors to score points in the contest.      Continue reading

Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week


Congratulations to Hoosick Falls basketball player Jon Kempf on being named Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.

This past week Kempf put together some outstanding numbers over a three game span.  Starting on December 28th the Panther junior scored 25 points including 14 of 16 from the foul line in 68-42 win over Ravena.

On January 2nd Kempf dropped 31 points and converted on 18 of 21 from the stripe in a 77-44 victory over Mt. Anthony.

Rounding out the week on Friday the 6’1″ forward handed Greenwich 25 points in the Panthers 67-45 win over the Witches.
