On Wednesday night in Schaghticoke, all in attendance watched a competitive, back and forth run between a pair of teams in Hoosic Valley and Mechanicville who both showed  high levels of compete.  While at time there seemed to be as many turnovers as points, that was a direct result of the “want to” on the defensive end by both squads.

The game produced six ties and seven lead changes, and in the end the visiting Raiders came away with a well earned 42-39 victory over the Indians.

Midway through the first with the game tied at 7-7 Mechanicville put together a 7-0 run to finish the quarter.  Charli Goverski connected on a drive to the cup, followed by a Jada Brown steal and score, and Goverski finished the period, drilling a corner three off an in bounds play as time expired with Mechanicville holding a 14-7 cushion.

Midway through the second quarter, the Valley took their first lead of the night on a Casey Bugbee triple giving the Indians an 18-16 advantage.

The two teams exchanged the lead three time before quarter’s end, when the Indians senior point guard Sam Lanoue used a double kiss off the glass, to get her deep three-ball to go with the clock showing all zeroes, sending the teams to the break, the Valley holding a 23-21 edge.

Mechanicville scored the first points of the third at the 6:00 mark on a Goverski drive to the bucket, tying things at 23-23.

A Lanoue triple pushed the Indians back in front, before the Raiders took the lead on an AJ Joseph score and a Goverski steal and lay-in.

Mechanicville extended their cushion to 33-26 by the end of the period with Chloe Goverski ending the frame, on deep triple in front of the Raider bench.

Hoosic Valley trimmed the lead to 34-29 on a bucket and one by Sami Dickinson with 6:30 remaining, but on the ensuing possession Charli Goverski buried a trey as Mechanicville maintained the eight point spread at 37-29.

With 2:40 left and the Indians trailing 40-31 Anna Jensen scored on a drive to the rack, followed by a pair of Lanoue free throws at the 2:04 mark, cutting the Raider lead to 40-35.

An inside bucket with half a minute to play by Dickinson drew the Valley to within five at 42-37, and as the Raiders attempted to play keep away, Indians freshman guard Lili Czub jumped the passing lane for a steal and score with ten ticks left.

The Valley fouled on the Mechanicville in bounds pass sending Amy DiSiena to the line for two and when both shots were off the mark, the Indians used their final timeout with :09 left looking for a game-tying three.

But it was not to be as a Jensen jumper caromed the iron and Brown secured the rebound to close things out for the Raider “W”.

Dickinson finished with 13 points on the night with Lanoue adding a dozen for the Indians who with the loss slip to 6-5 on the season.

Mechanicville was led by Charli Goverski with a game-high 18 points as the Red Raiders  improve to 8-3 with the victory.
