Mechanicville 12 Granville 8: Joe Sanchez bulled in from the two-yard line with :45 remaining, propelling Mechanicville past the Golden Horde on Saturday in Granville.
Sanchez staked the Raiders to a 6-0 lead at the 4:21 mark in the first on a one-yard touchdown run. But on the final play of the first frame Granville’s Logan Beebe ran it in from six yards out and Josh Oakman added the two-point conversion to give the home squad an 8-6 advantage which held up until Sanchez’s late game heroics.
With the win the Red Raiders even their season mark at 1-1.
Greenwich 36 Stillwater 7: Max Maguire and Matt Conlin both ran for a pair of touchdowns to lead Greenwich to the road win over the Warriors of Stillwater.
A two-yard scoring run by CJ McNeil gave Stillwater a 7-6 edge early in the second period, but on the final play of the first half a two-yard quarterback sneak by Jesse Kuzmich along with the two-point conversion gave the lead back to the Witches at 14-7.
Conlin’s second running touchdown came with 1:57 left in the third extended the Witches lead to 22-7 and Maquire added TD runs of 24 and 5 yards in the final quarter to round out the scoring for Greenwich.
With the win the Witches move to 2-0 on the season.
Hoosick Falls/Tamarac 34 Watervliet 0: Greg Mays threw for 114 yards and three scores to lead HF/Tam to the shutout “W” over the Cannoneers of Watervliet.
Mays connected with Tucker Thayne on a 19-yard scoring strike in the second frame, and added a pair of touchdown tosses in the third, finding James Blake from 38 yards out and Tom Chalewa on a 28 yard hookup.
Hoosick Falls/Tamarac held a 321-69 advantage in total yards and with the victory improve to 2-0 on the year.
