Congratulations to Hoosic Valley baseball player Kody Gillespie on being named Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.

Yesterday the Indians first baseman had a great week on a Tuesday afternoon in Saratoga.  Gillespie enjoyed a 4-5 day at the plate, launching three home runs and a double, while driving in an incredible 10 runs in the Valley’s 17-14 victory over previously unbeaten Saratoga Catholic.

Congratulations to Kody, our newest Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.

Hoosic Valley Outslugs Spa Catholic

On Tuesday we turned the calendar and the new month of May came in with warm temperatures and sunny skies.  While all teams enjoyed yesterday’s beautiful weather, the lineups of Hoosic Valley and Saratoga Catholic baseball teams reveled in it staging an offensive back and forth that saw 36 hits and 31 runs combined before the Valley prevailed with the 17-14 “W”.

Here’s a closer look at that contest along with the rest of the action from a Wasaren Tuesday.

Hoosic Valley 17  Saratoga Catholic 14

Winning Pitcher:  Nick Santiago

Leading Hitters:  Valley – Kody Gillespie 4-5, 3 HR’s, 2B, 10 RBI’s     Blake Weigert 3-5, 2 2B’s, 1B. RBI     Issac Carlo 3 1B’s          Saints – Nick Winslow 3-5, 2 2B’s, 4 RBI’s     Terel Tillman 1-5, HR, 3 RBI’s     Dylan Custer 3-4, 2B, RBI     Jake Hart 3-5, 2B, 2 RBI’s

Gillespie explodes for three home runs and a double, driving in 10 and the Indians needed all of that and more to hand the Saints, 8-1, 10-1, their first loss of the year.  The Valley put seven runs on the board in the top of the first, but an eight spot in the bottom of the fourth gave Spa a 10-9 lead.  The two clubs were tied at 14 entering the final frame where the Valley plated three to earn the win improving to 6-3, 7-4 on the season.   Continue reading
