Mekeel Christian Academy built a 22-11 halftime lead and took control with a 16-6 third period on their way to a 49-26 victory over Hoosic Valley to claim the Section II Class C girls title Friday night at Hudson Valley Community College.
Mekeel was led by their outstanding trio of scorers with Rebekkah Dean netting 20 points, Jessie Snow 12, and Elizabeth Singleton adding 11 points. The Academy riding a 23 game winning streak will next play in the state regionals.
Alex Rifenburg scored 12 points to pace the Valley who complete another fine season with a 19-5 mark.
Seven of the nine Wasaren girls squads will compete in sectional play this year but just one team is in action tonight. The Cambridge Indians play host to the Cairo-Durham Mustangs in a Class C play-in run.
A late season non-league run turned into an overtime affair in Greenwich Monday night, and the home squad did just enough in the extra session, outscoring Mayfield 9-7, to post the 49-47 victory.
