In a nice early season girls matchup, Cambridge hosted Tamarac on Friday night The Indians took control early, but left the door slightly ajar, and while the Bengals stepped to the open door they never walked through as Cambridge held on for the 49-44 victory.
Three minutes into the first period the Indians, holding a 5-4 lead, went on a run, building a cushion they would hold for much of the contest. Cambridge closed the quarter with a 12-2 spurt that saw five different players score, and held a 17-6 advantage after the first. Continue reading

Key Stat: The Bengals who trailed 35-30 at the break, used a 24-13 final period to post the come-from-behind “W” in a high scoring affair.
Take Away: Catherwood and Zotto combine for 50 points to lead a potent Bengal attack that will get their Wasaren season underway on Friday night when they’ll host the Indians of Cambridge.
A familiar face and voice will be seen and heard stalking the Hoosic Valley sidelines this season as former head coach Walt Dorman returns to the lead chair. Dorman, who led the Indians to a state title in 2012, while known by everyone at the Valley, has not previously worked with this group of players.

Key Stat: The Indians built an 11 point lead over the first two periods and secured the win in the season-opener.

Hoosick Falls 60 Schenectady 53
Leading Scorers: Panthers – Logan Thayne 30 Lillian Hickey 8 Schenectady – T. Anastasia 21 L. Ambrester 14
Key Stat: Hoosick Falls simply shot it better. Schenectady was 22-76 from the floor while the Panthers were 22-55 and from the free throw line Schenectady converted just 5 of 12 with the Falls connecting on 13 of 24.
Take Away: Thayne coming off a 25 point, 16 rebound effort on Monday in a win over Meekel Christian Academy backs it up with 30 points and 15 boards in this one as the Panthers improve to 2-0 with Berlin on deck Friday night.
While Stillwater will have a new head coach this season, as Bruce Lilac takes over for Dave Cook, they’ll be plenty of familiar faces wearing the Warrior maroon and white.
Seven players return for Stillwater this year as Brian McNeil, James Galarneau, Mason Seymour, Grant Baker, Scott Travis, Cooper Monast and Matt Breslin all started or saw quality minutes for the Warriors just a season ago.

In a game that was tied at both the quarter and halftime breaks Hoosic Valley gained some breathing room late in the third and gradually pulled away over the final eight minutes earning a 60-48 decision over Mechanicville in Schaghticoke Tuesday night.
The visitors ran out to a 5-1 lead early in the first with sophomore Amy DiSiena scoring four points off a runner and a transition bucket on a nice feed from Charli Goverski.
The Valley’s Renee Serafin tied things at 5-5 midway through the period on a runout, and her wing jumper to end the quarter again knotted the score at 8-8. Continue reading
