Girls Basketball; Falls, Valley Post Big Wins

HVbbOn Wednesday night the top four league squads earned wins over the bottom four conference teams, but Friday night the schedule-maker had the front running quartet square off with each other.  Hoosick Falls hosted Tamarac, while the Indians of Hoosic Valley paid a visit to Cambridge.

 

Hoosick Falls 52  Tamarac 44

Leading Scorers: Falls – Megan Flynn 20   Bengals – Hannah Kreiger 12    Cassidy Medved 11

Key Stat:  Tamarac held a one-point lead at 37-36 after three periods, but a 16-7 fourth quarter for the Falls decided this one.

Take Away:  Hoosick Falls completes the first half of league runs at a perfect 7-0, while the Bengals at 5-2 after this tough loss, are still in the hunt.

 

Hoosic Valley 36  Cambridge 32

Leading Scorers: Valley – Kate Kennelly 10     Indians – Lynn Brownell 12

Key Stat: Yet another game decided in the final eight minutes as the two squads were tied entering the fourth where a 10-6 advantage for the Valley was enough to give them the “W”.

Take Away:  The Valley and Cambridge both sit at 5-2, both can play with anyone, and both will be in the race the rest of the way.

 

Greenwich 63  Granville 52

Leading Scorers: Witches – Olivia Barnes 23   Sabrina Whitehouse 17   Isabelle Kuzmich 10        Horde – Alexis Smith 21    Gabby Hunt 16

Key Stat:  Greenwich won every quarter to post their first league win of the year.

Take Away:  Both teams put points on the board Friday night, but will need to improve defensively over the second half of the schedule to earn more victories.

 

Stillwater 45   Mechanicville 42

Leading Scorers: Warriors – Danika Svendsen 17    Red Raiders – Amanda Kenyon 14

Key Stat: Stillwater converted 10 of 17 free throws while the Raiders attempted just two on the night.

Take Away: With the win the Warriors improve to 3-4 on the season, while Mechanciville drops to 2-5 with the loss.
