Sectional Saturday; Indians, Panthers Advance

HVbbFive Wasaren teams were in action Saturday in the Section II Basketball Tournament as the Greenwich boys took the floor in Class C, along with Hoosick Falls, Hoosic Valley, Stillwater, and Tamarac in Class B on the girls side.  It speaks to the strength of the Wasaren that four of the eight remaining teams in Class B come from the league, unfortunately on Saturday those squads had to face each other with the Valley taking on Tamarac, and the Falls meeting Stillwater

Here’s how it all played out.

Hoosic Valley 59  Tamarac 46

Leading Scorers: Valley – Gabby Serafin 13    Alicia Clum 10     Bengals – Emily Erickson 25

Key Stat: The Valley held a  37-36 lead heading to the fourth period, but out scored the Bengals 22-10 in the final frame to secure the “W”.  When the Indians score like that they’re not going to lose.

Next Up: Hoosic Valley meets Glens Falls @ Averill Park on Wednesday @ 6 p.m.

Hoosick Falls 63  Stillwater 26

Leading Scorers: Falls – Lizza Ryan 25    Megan Flynn 14    Kelly Pine 11    Warriors – Abby Higgins 8

Key Stat: The Panthers held Stillwater to single digits in each quarter while scoring in the 60’s with three players in doubles.  The Falls seems primed for their semifinal meeting with Voorheesville.

Next Up: Hoosick Falls meets Voorheesville @ Averill Park on Wednesday @ 7:30.

Spa Catholic 54  Greenwich 44

Leading Scorers: Saints – Evan Pescetti 14   Connor Harrington 14    Witches – Lukas Whitehouse 11    George Ostrowski 11   Colin Skiff 10

Key Stat: The Saints out scored Greenwich 33-20 over the middle two periods and led 48-33 going into the final quarter.

Next Up: Spa Catholic meets Middleburgh Tuesday @ the Glens Falls Civic Center @ 5 p.m.
