The remaining two Wasaren softball squads took the field on Tuesday in Section II semifinals contests and the league teams came away with a split. In Class C Greenwich’s season ended in a 7-2 loss to Maple Hill, while in the B’s Hoosic Valley bested top seeded Cohoes 4-2 advancing to the championship game on Friday.
Hoosic Valley 4 Cohoes 2: Many felt top seeded Cohoes was shoo-in to win Class B or minimally play in the title game. The Valley had other ideas.
Jumping out to a 3-0 lead after three, the Indians were never headed and posted the semifinal “W” setting up a championship tilt with Ichabod Crane at Moreau on Friday at 5 p.m.
In the second Danielle Stannard reached on a single, moved to second on Kate Kennelly’s sac bunt and scored on an Alicia Clum RBI.
In the third the Indians used RBI’s from Cierra Casale and Katrina Dean to push their advantage to 3-0, before adding a single run in the fifth.
Cohoes mounted a rally in the sixth stringing three straight singles, and plated two, to cut the lead in half.
But Camille Coyne worked a perfect seventh and the Valley moved on to the title game with Crane where they’ll look for a Class B title to add to their Class C crown from a year ago.
