When we previewed the Section II tournament a week ago I thought both Greenwich and Hoosic Valley baseball teams would be in the finals in their respective classes. Certainly not a long shot prediction as the Valley is the #1 seed in Class B, while Greenwich holds the same spot in Class C.
On Saturday both clubs took the field in semifinal contests and both posted victories, securing their place in championship games next week at Joe Bruno Stadium.
Hoosic Valley 7 Granville 2
Winning Pitcher: Kolbie Sawyer
Leading Hitters: Valley – Todd Cox 2 2b’s, 2 RBI’s, Jimmy Burnell 1b, RBI, Dan Joslin 1b, RBI, Joe Duncan 1b, RBI Horde – Jarrett Ettori 1b, 2 RBI’s
Key Stat: After Granville tied things at 2-2 in the top of the fourth the Valley plated two in the bottom of the frame on run-scoring singles by Burnell and Joslin, regaining the lead which they didn’t give back.
