Eight league golf teams were in action on Monday and the Cambridge girls played a non league soccer match as well, as the fall season for high school athletics gears up this week.
Tamarac 3 1/2 Mechanicville 1 1/2: In a match played at Mechanicville Country Club, Bobby Simmons fired a low round of 39 to lead Tamarac to the win over host Mechanicville.
Simmons was joined in the win column by teammates Will Ashley and Brendan Gardner while Alex Ciulla won his match for the Raiders in the #3 flight. In the #4 flight the Raiders Sean Fitzgerald and the Bengals Zach Buckley split the point.
Greenwich 3 Saratoga Catholic 2: Greenwich’s Reed Boduch claimed medalist honors posting a 38, and Mason Williamson and Jake Owens also added wins for the Witches as they slipped past the Saints in action at the Battenkill Country Club.
Ben Scammel and Jake Welcome picked up “W’s” in flights 4 and 5 for Spa Catholic.
Cambridge 4 Hoosic Valley 1: The Valley’s Brett Norman and Cambridge’s Ben Epler shared medalist honors firing 44’s respectively, but the match belonged to Cambridge as the Indians ran their record to 4-2 on the season with the win.
Norman claimed the Valley point with his victory in flight #1 on the challenging Hoosick Falls Country Club course,
Stillwater 5 Waterford 0: The Warriors behind Brady Cooper’s 44 threw the shutout over Waterford in a match played at Fairways of Halfmoon.
Brendan Wichelns, Frank Darwick, John Tedesco, and Jared Strazzi all joined Cooper in the win column for Stillwater.
Girls Soccer Cambridge 9 Berlin 0: In the season-opener for both squads it was all Indians. The hosts scored four first half goals and five more after intermission posting the decisive victory over Berlin.
Miranda Seacord lead the assault with four goals, while Helen Mooney and Grace Snyder added a pair each, and Taylor Stamer rounded out the scoring with a single tally as well.
Victoria Dupius and the Cambridge defense earned the shutout, with Dupius only needing three saves in keeping Berlin off the board,
