In a matchup between unbeaten squads Saturday in Schaghticoke, Glens Falls ran out to a 28-0 lead and rode that cushion to a 48-21 victory over the Indians of Hoosic Valley.
Glens Falls took the opening kickoff and needed just five plays to score the game’s first touchdown, a two-yard run from quarterback Joseph Girard III.
On the ensuing kickoff the Falls Dakota Trombley recovered on the Valley 28 setting up a short field for Glens Falls and they quickly took advantage scoring on an 11-yard Girard to Quinn Girard pass play for a 14-0 advantage.
The Valley put together a nice drive on their first possession moving the ball deep into Glens Falls territory, but on a fourth and goal from the five the Falls held when defensive back Aaron Sampson broke up a pass in the end zone, giving the ball back to the Falls.
The big play offense for Glens Falls struck again when Girard found Andrew Murphy on a short pass and the Falls receiver ran it in from 7o yards out and a 21-0 lead with 9:36 left in the half.
Murphy was in the end zone three minutes later when he blocked a punt scooped it up and ran in untouched as the lead grew to 28-0.
With 2:41 left in the half Hoosic Valley got on the board when Frank Adams rumbled in from 13 yards out trimming the lead to 28-7.
With :47 left to the break, Girard found Murphy on a five yard slant for the Falls fifth touchdown of the afternoon and a 35-7 halftime lead.
Glens Falls added a pair of third quarter scores on a Girard to Murphy 33 yard scoring strike and a 72 yard touchdown run from Josh Griffen.
Hoosic Valley scored twice in the final period, on a six yard touchdown run by Tom Madigan (14 carries 97 yards), and a four yard carry for the score by Isaac Sanchez.
With the win Glens Falls improves to 5-0 on the season and will take on Schuylerville at home next Friday night. Hoosic Valley (4-1) will entertain Fonda next Saturday in the regular seasons next to last weekend of high school football.
