This one had all the makings of a mismatch. The Valley 4-1 coming in had absorbed their only loss last weekend against Class B Glens Falls and were more than ready to return to their winning ways. Couple that with a 1-4 Fonda squad minus their senior signal caller Dan Parslow, and it was a perfect recipe for a one sided affair.
As the saying goes, “If it was a fight, they would have stopped it.”
The Valley ran out to a 32 -o lead at the half and cruised to the 53 -0 victory.
Indians running back Tom Madigan got things started just a minute and change in, scoring from 21 yards out and with the point after the Valley led 7-0.
With 3:05 remaining in the first, it was Isaac Sanchez’s turn to ring the bell, running it in from 12 yards and a 13-0 advantage.
On the first play of the second period it was Madigan again this time powering it in from 13 yards and the rout was on.
A two yard touchdown run by Sanchez and a 14-yarder from quarterback Mike Schoomaker gave the Indians a commanding 32-0 cushion at the break.
Madigan added scoring runs of 27 and 50 in the third period capping a 10 carry, 152 yard afternoon for the exceptional senior back.
Sanchez enjoyed a fine afternoon as well running for 97 yards and a pair of scores, part of another dominant display by the vaunted Valley ground game that totaled 350 yards on this day.
With the win, their fifth in six outings, Hoosic Valley will wrap up their regular season next Saturday when they host Lake George / Hadley Luzerne, and with a “W’ will secure the #1 seed in the upcoming Section II Class C tournament.
Look for exactly that to happen as the Valley primes itself for a long post season run.
