Stillwater, Spa Catholic Post Wins


On the last day to play high school football in New York the basketball season got underway with a handful of Wasaren teams in action.


Stillwater 62  Cohoes 57 OT

Leading Scorers:  Warriors – Jared D’Aloia 31  Zack Travis 14  Ezra Echeandia 14   Cohoes – Shelley Walker 27   Marqus Alston 11

Key Stat: Stillwater out scored Cohoes 8-3 in the extra session to seal the win.  The Warriors only put four players in the scoring column but all four were in doubles, and that proved to be enough for the victory.


Saratoga Catholic 94  Fort Edward 53

Leading Scorers: Saints – Connor Farrington 33  Tyler Haraden 14  Sean Englert 14  Sam Haraden 10    Forts – Austin Young 21  Ethan Doty 12

Key Stat:  The Saints put 30 points on the board in the first eight minutes and coasted to the win behind a big night from Farrington who hit nine triples in the contest.


Schuylerville 57   Mechanicville 27

Leading Scorers: Black Horses – Stratton Sherman 16   Red Raiders – Kendrick McCann 7

Key Stat: Schuylerville outscored the Raiders 34-8 over the middle two quarters leading to the comfortable “W”.



Hoosic Valley 31   Cohoes 25

Leading Scorers:  Valley – Alex Rifenburg 11   Cohoes – Sam Dayter 8

Key Stat: The Indians defense held Cohoes to nine points through three periods of play in posting the season opening win.


Watervliet 66   Mechanicville 38

Leading Scorers: Canoneers – Sage Roberts 19  Ali Changa 15  Tyleseaa Edge 10      Raiders – Sammy Pasinella 19

Watervliet jumped out to a 37-15 halftime advantage in notching the win over the Raiders.
