Weekend Basketball Roundup



Five league squads took to the hardwood over the weekend in preseason tournament, or non-league action as the basketball season starts to gain traction.

Schuylerville 65  Stillwater 55

Leading Scorers: Black Horses – Stratton Sherman 20  Paul Hashbarger 12   Warriors – Jared D’Aloia 32   Zack Travis 12

Key Stat: A 20-6 first quarter advantage for Schuylerville proved to be the difference as the teams played evenly throughout the remainder of the contest. For the second straight night Stillwater placed just four in the scoring column led in this one by D’Aloia’s career high of 32.


Greenwich 49  Warrensburg 36

Leading Scorers: Witches – Carson Mosher 16   Bailey Winch 11 Josh James 10   Burgers – Zack Smith 8

Key Stat: The Witches started and finished well outscoring Warrensburg 28-16 over the first and last periods to notch their first win of the season.


Cohoes 54  Mechanicville 50

Leading Scorers: Cohoes – Jakob Majkut 17   Marquis Alston 12   Red Raiders – Kendrick McCann 14   Alex Ciulla 12

Key Stat: Cohoes ran out to a 34-16 halftime lead and survived a 20-9 fourth quarter run by the Raiders to post the “W”.


Fort Ann 75  Saratoga Catholic 59

Leading Scorers: Cardinals – Tyler Matteson 34   Jon Allen 16   Jeremy Johnson 12   Saints – Tyler Harden 29   Connor Farrington 18   Tyrell Tillman 10

Key Stat: The Cardinals put 44 on the board in the first half and leading by 20, rode that cushion to the victory in the championship game of the Mike Bessen Tourney.


Beekmantown 56  Hoosic Valley 44

Leading Scorers: B’Town – Ashley Guynup 22    Indians – Cami Wren 16   Becky Keasby 12

Key Stat: Beekmantown scored doubled digits in every quarter, and held a 32-15 advantage at the half, going on to claim the victory in the Rusty Grestini Tourney Final.
