Hoosic Valley and Saratoga Catholic softball teams both notched wins on Friday, the Saints topping Waterford in league play, while the Indians bested Maple Hill in a non-league get together.
Hoosic Valley 6 Maple Hill 1: The Valley broke open a 2-1 game with a pair of runs in the fifth frame, and doubled down with two more in the sixth to put away the Hilltoppers.
Ashley Madigan paced the Valley offense, enjoying a 3-4 day that included a double and two runs scored. Bridget Ryan and Ashley Bogue added a pair of singles each to support winning pitcher Camille Coyne who fanned six and allowed just three hits on the afternoon.
Kenzie Seymour plated Maple Hill’s lone run with an RBI single in the second frame.
With the win the Valley improves to 0-2, 1-2 on the young season.
Saratoga Catholic 11 Waterford 3: The Saints scored six times in the fourth to take control and cruised to the easy victory over the Fordians in Waterford Friday afternoon.
Molly O’Reilly went the distance in picking up the win for the Saints, striking out nine while walking seven.
Sabrina Johnson and Victoria Alvord with three hits each, plated four runs to lead the Spa who with the win improves to 3-1 in the early going.
Olivia Davidson with a 3-4 effort led the Waterford attack in the season-opener for the Fordians.
