Stillwater’s Brooke Pickett has scored more goals this season than anyone in Section II. Pickett is literally “marked” every time she steps on the soccer field, as Schoharie tried to do Wednesday night in the girls Section II Class C final in Lansingburgh. It didn’t matter.
Warrior teammates continued to find Pickett and the sophomore striker continued to find the back of the net, four times on this night leading Stillwater to a 4-2 victory and the Class C crown.
Thirty five minutes into the match Pickett got the Warriors on the board off a nice find from freshman Devon Wagner and Stillwater took a 1-0 lead.
That score stood until early in the second half when Pickett finished a nice ball from freshman Teya Staie giving Stillwater a 2-0 advantage.
Minutes later came goal number three when Pickett was able to bury a loose ball after a scramble in front of the Schoharie goal, and with 15:00 left the final Stillwater tally came when Pickett netted a beautiful cross from Sophomore Paige Brinsko giving the Warriors a 4-0 cushion.
Schoharie avoided the shutout with a pair of Carrie Krohn goals over the remaining minutes, and when the clock read 00:00, the Warriors celebrated their first Section II soccer title since 2009.
Stillwater with the win improves to 18-2 on the year as this young, talented Warrior squad advances to regional play looking to extend their impressive 2017 post season run.
