A trio of Wasaren girls squads played in non-league runs on Thursday night with the Witches of Greenwich opening their season in impressive fashion.
Greenwich 72 Galway 27
Leading Scorers: Witches – Molly Brophy 34 Marquita Gutasy 13 Tess Merrill 10 Galway – Beth Rapapi 9
Key Stat: Greenwich backed a 15-3 first period with a 16-6 advantage in the second, taking a 22 point cushion into the break and coasted to the season-opening win from there.
Take Away: Brophy hands Galway 34 leading a Witches attack that puts 72 points on the board their first time out. While Wasaren competition will be stronger, Greenwich will be a handful for anyone.
Ballston Spa 52 Stillwater 45
Leading Scorers: Spa – Sierra Delany 16 Ana Gold 10 Warriors – Marley Mueller 13 Brooke Pickett 10
Key Stat: A 17-7 second quarter gave Ballston Spa an eight point lead at the half, enough to hold off the Warriors for the win.
Take Away: Stillwater is still looking for that first win at 0-3 and will chase it tonight when they host the Indians of Hoosic Valley.
North Warren 54 Saratoga Catholic 34
Leading Scorers: Cougars – Sydney Gagnon 15 Emma Phillips 11 Saints – Ryleigh O’Connell 7
Key Stat: The lines were good to the Cougars where they held a 4-1 advantage form three point range, and a 12-3 edge at the charity stripe.
Take Away: The Saints are also pursuing that elusive first win with their next chance a week away when they’ll face Mechanicville in Saratoga.
