Sectional Roundup; Wasaren Clubs Fare Well

With the weather cooperating on Friday first round action in the Section II baseball and softball tournaments got underway with many Wasaren teams stepping on the diamond and seven innings later most walked off with “W’s”.

Baseball

Tamarac 8  Spa Catholic 3

Winning Pitcher:  Tristan Nemjo

Leading Hitters:  Bengals – Tristan Nemjo 3-4, 2 RBI’s       Nate LaPlante 1-2, 2 RBI’s     Saints – Terel Tillman 2-4        Ryan McCarroll 2-4, 2 RBI’s

The Bengals plated four in both the second and fifth frames to upset the #2 seeded Saints.  The 15th seeded Bengals advance to play Ravena on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Ravena.

 

Hoosic Valley 3  Waterford 1

Winning Pitcher:  Ethan Caiazza 6.2 IP  7 Hits  1 Run  9 K’s

Leading Hitters:  Valley – Ethan Caiazza 2-3, 2B, 2 RBI’s       Justin Sawyer 1-3, 2B, RBI     Isaac Carlo 2-3         Fordians – Michael Talavera 3-4, 2B, RBI

The Indians broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth on back to back RBI doubles from Sawyer and Caiazza, and the Valley closed things out in the seventh for the first round victory.  The Indians will face Fort Plain in second round action today at noon in Fort Plain.

Leading Hitters:  Witches – John Walsh 3-4, 2B, 3 RBI’s       James Ostrowski 2-3, HR, RBI    Tom Abate 3-4, RBI         Carson Mosher 1-3, 2B, 2 RBI’s

The Witched hung 13 runs on the board in the first two innings and cruised to the second round when they’ll take to the road to face the Hilltoppers of Maple Hill at 1:00 today.

Winning Pitcher:  Maggie Kelley  7 IP  3 Runs  9 Hits  12 K’s

Leading Hitters:  Bengals McKenna Ryan 2-4        Gianna Bucciero 2-2       Kylie Galipeau 2-2           Schalmont – Erin Mahar 2-4, HR          Talia Hartman 2-3, 2B        Sara Kindlin 2-3

The #5 Bengals built a 4-0 cushion after four frames and hung on to advance in Class B.  Tamarac will play at #4 Greenville on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals.

 

Hoosick Falls 1  Galway 0

Winning Pitcher:  Abby Philpott  7 IP  2 Hits  0 Runs  11 K’s

Leading Hitters:  Falls – A. Pacheco RBI 1B

In a pitcher’s duel where the two teams combined for just four hits, Pacheco’s RBI single in the fifth proved to be the difference as Hoosick Falls advances in Class C.

 

Fort Plain 12  Spa Catholic 4

Winning Pitcher:  Michela Stockwell

Leading Hitters:  Fort Plain – Reese 2-4, 4 RBI’s      Stockwell 2-4, 2RBI’s        Saints – Kennedy Murphy 1-3, RBI        Julia Murdick 1-4

Fort Plain scored in each of the first five innings, putting the game away with a five-run fifth.
