Friday Night Football; Greenwich Win’s Battle of Unbeatens

Greenwich 36 Warrensburg 20: In a get-together of undefeated squads Friday night in Greenwich, the Witches won the turnover battle, and that proved to be the difference as the hosts posted the well-earned victory over the Burghers.

Throughout most of the first half the teams traded punches, until Greenwich finished the half with back to back scores.

The Witches Matt Conlin and Jesse Kuzmich sandwiched scoring runs around a 3-yard TD carry by Warrrensburg’s Dylan Winchell, to lead 14-8 at the end of the first quarer.

Warrensburg knotted things at 14-14 less than two minutes into the second frame on a Tim Kelly touchdown run, but Greenwich quickly answered on a Deontae Bennett 20-yard romp for points, and following a turnover, Kuzmich ran for his second score of the night, giving the Witches a 29-14 halftime advantage.

Early in the third, Warrensburg used a Tristen Hitchcock 29-yard TD tote, to trim the deficit at 29-20 to which Greenwich responded with a 40-yard touchdown strike from Kuzmich to Bennett for what turned out to be the final points of the contest.

With the win Greenwich moves to 5-0 on the season, while the Burghers suffer their first loss of the year and slip to 5-1.

Schuylerville 46 Mechanicville 14: Schuylerville raced out to a 30-0 halftime lead and never looked backed in notching the home win over the Red Raiders.

Lamden Cumm ran for 81 yards and three scores to pace a Black Horse attack that produced 304 yards of total offense on the night.

Owen Sherman, Lukas Sherman and Martin Flanders all added touchdowns for Schuylerville.

Mechanicville got on the board in the third period with a Rozowicz 36-yard fumble return, and in the fourth on a 34-yard touchdown run by Morrison.

Hoosick Falls/Tamarac 20 Fonda 7: HF/T quarterback Jake Sparks threw for a pair of touchdowns and ran in another, to lead the Wildcats past Fonda Friday night in Tamarac.

Sparks found James Blake with a 22-yard touchdown pass in the first period, and connected with Bryan Mackey for a 34-yard scoring strike in the second frame, staking the Wildcats to a 14-0 halftime advantage.

In the third, Fonda cut the lead in half with a one-yard TD run, but Sparks sealed the win in the final period on a 2-yard TD carry, giving Tamarac/Hoosick Falls their fourth win in five outings on the year.
