Saturday’s Sectional Results

Hoosic Valley 63   Canajoharie 47

Leading Scorers:  Valley – Isaiah Eckler 16     Tyler Eddy 13     Logan Reilly 13     Chris Jones 13      Canjo – L.A. Fairley 17

Key Stat:  The Valley converted on 19 of 29 free throw attempts, while Canajoharie was just 4 of 6 from the stripe.

Take Away:  The Indians opened with a 17-7 first frame, and after the two teams played evenly through the middle two quarters, the Valley close things out over the final eight minutes to notch the Class CC quarterfinal win in the Section II tournament.  Four of the five Hoosic Valley players that scored in the game reached double figures with Lane Carner adding eight points.  Hoosic Valley advances to play Stillwater in the CC semi’s on Tuesday at the Cool Insuring Arena in a 5 p.m. run. 

 

Hoosick Falls 54   Chatham 44

Leading Scorers:  Falls – Jake Sparks 23     Connor Jones 17         Panthers – Tate Van Alstyne 12      Kyle Jackson 10

Key Stat:  Hoosick Falls held Chatham to 16 first-half points.

Take Away:  The Falls locked down Chatham over the first sixteen minutes and built a 27-16 lead at the break.  They closed things out with clutch free throw shooting, going 11 of 13 from the line in the final frame.  With the win seventh seeded Panthers advance to face #6 Greenwich on Monday in a CC semifinal at 8:00 at the Cool Insuring Arena. 

 

Greenwich 72   Lake George 51

Leading Scorers:  Witches – Jesse Kuzmich 19     Joe Skiff 12     Deontae Bennett 12        Warriors – Ryan Becker 18     Julius Moffit 12

Key Stat:  An 18-8 third quarter gave the Witches an 18-point advantage at 51 -33.

Take Away:  Greenwich led 19-10 after the first and never looked back, posting the comfortable quarterfinal win in Class CC.  The Witches put three players in doubles with nine Greenwich players scoring points.  Greenwich moves on to a semifinal matchup with Hoosick Falls on Monday at 8 p.m. at the Cool Insuring Arena. 

 

Tamarac 79   Glens Falls 38

Leading Scorers:  Bengals – Xachary Rice 25     Mike D’Agostino 17     Joey Poulin 15     James Blake 11    Glens Falls – Cooper Nadler 9

Key Stat:  Leading 33-16 at the break, Tamarac put the game away with a 32-16 third period.

Take Away:  The Bengals put four players in doubles, held the Falls to 38 points, and cruised to the Class B quarterfinal win.  Next up for #1 Tamarac is a semifinal run with Catholic Central on Wednesday at the Cool Insuring Arena.

 

Stillwater 64   Spa Catholic 42   No other stats at this time

Take Away:  Stillwater held a narrow 27-24 advantage at the break but doubled up Spa Catholic 37-18 in the second half to notch the CC quarterfinal victory and advance to a semifinal run with Hoosic Valley on Tuesday at the Cool Insuring Arena.

 

Fort Plain 68   Waterford 34

Leading Scorers:  FP – Levi Thomas 31     Austin VanGorder 10     Fordians – Derrick Pontore 17     Howard Phelan 11

Key Stat:  Fort Plain won every quarter.

Take Away:  Fort Plain held Waterford to eight, first-half points, building a 31-8 advantage and cruised to the quarterfinal win in Class C
