Soccer Sectional Results; Raiders Win Twice, Fordians Advance

Mechanicville 6 Coxsackie-Athens 0: The Red Raiders held a 2-0 lead at the break, and put the game away with four second half goals, notching the Class B quarterfinal “W” on Saturday.

A pair of first half strikes by Andrew Kraszewski, the first off a Wyqie Aguda find, staked the Raiders to a 2-0 advantage heading to halftime.

Aguda connected for a pair of scores after intermission, with Ryan Grimmick and Gordon Jenney adding single tallies.

Raider keeper Dylan Raucci saved five shots in earning the shutout.

With the win Mechanicville advances to the B semi’s, and will face Broadalbin Perth on Wednesday night.

Waterford 1 Chatham 0: The Fordians used a first half goal, and an outstanding defensive effort to earn the Class C quarterfinal victory over Chatham, Saturday night.

The game-winner came with less than three minutes remaining in the first half. After a series of blocks in the box, and point blank saves by Chatham’s keeper John Wisseman, Josh Catanzarita cleaned up the chaos, firing a shot to the back of the net for the difference-maker.

Waterford keeper Alex Roy and the Fordian defense enjoyed an outstanding match in keeping Chatham off the board.

With the win Waterford moves on, and will face top-seeded Maple Hill on Wednesday at LaSalle in a Class C semifinal.

Maple Hill 4 Stillwater 0: Eli Charlebois scored a hat trick, and Kayden Morris added a PK score, fueling the Tigers win over Stillwater in a Class C quarterfinal match.

Girls

Mechanicville 1 Voorheesville 1 OT Mechanicville advances on PK’s: Nevaeh D’Aloia scored for Mechanicville and Emma Farrell tallied for Voorheesville in a Class B quarterfinal that was decided via penalty kicks.

Both keepers had big matches between the posts with Raider keeper Olivia Horan and her counterpart Isabella Thayer both denying 15 shots in the contest.

With the win Mechanicville advances to the semi’s with a Tuesday matchup with Broadalbin Perth in Stillwater.

Schalmont 6 Tamarac 0: Five players scored for Schalmont led by Gianna Viscusi, who connected twice, leading the Sabres to the win in a Class B quarterfinal match.

Saturday Morning Roundup; Fordians Roll

Waterford 9 Berne-Knox 1: The Fordians did their work early scoring four times before the break, in posting the shutout over Berne-Knox in a girls Class C opening round match.

Addison Galuski tallied twice, while Cassidy McClement and Imani Bloomfield added single strikes for the undefeated Fordians, who are the top ranked Class C team in the state.

Waterford keeper Maddy Atwood saved four shots for the Fordians, who advance to the quarterfinals with the “W”.

Stillwater 2 Galway 0: Elliot Patenaude connected for scores in each half, and the Stillwater defense did the rest in the Warriors Class C, opening round victory over Galway.

Patenaude score in the eighth minute of the match, and split the posts again in the 61st minute, while Warrior keeper Mia Corraro saved four shots and combined with the Stillwater “D” for the clean sheet.

Stillwater moves on to a quarterfinal match on Tuesday with Schoharie.

Hoosick Falls 2 Rensselaer 0: The Panther defense pitched a shutout, and Sydney Kasulinous and Rylie Niles connected on scoring strikes. to lead the Falls to the opening round win in Class C.

Hoosick Falls keeper Olivia Estes denied two shots, and with the Panther defense posted the shutout.

The Falls moves on to a quarterfinal match on Tuesday with Maple Hill.

Maple Hill 3 Cambridge 1: Maple Hill ran out to a 2-0 halftime lead, and held on for the win over Cambridge.

Alayna Fletcher, Rachael Frazier and Halee Spar all tallied for the Tigers.

Samantha Crandall connected with a second half strike for Cambridge.

Football

Tamarac/Hoosick Falls 42 Corinth 0: The Wildcats scored 28 first-period points, and cruised from their to the road “W” over Corinth.

HF/T quarterback Jake Sparks threw for three touchdowns in the first quarter, finding Jack Cavanaugh, Dylan Baker and Dillion Grogan with scoring strikes.

Baker also added a 29-yard punt return for points in the opening period.

In the second frame Anthony Paladino scored on a 1-yard TD run, while Richie Stifter scooped up a fumble and returned it 46 yards for six, to cap the scoring on the night.

The Wildcat defense dominated, holding Corinth to nine total yards in the contest.

HF/T kicker Abby Buckley was a perfect 6-6 on PAT’s.

With the win the Wildcats move to 6-1 on the year.

Fonda 47 Mechanicville 0: Fonda scored 34 points over the middle two periods to take control, on their way to the shutout victory over the visitors from Mechanicville.

Giovanni DiCaprio led Fonda’s attack, running for 127 yards and a pair of scores, including a 91-yard touchdown romp.

With the loss the Raiders slip to 1-5 on the season.

Stillwater 47 Warrensburg/North Warren 26: CJ McNeil and Caleb Dyer scored three touchdowns each, in leading the Warriors past W/NW Friday night in Stillwater.

McNeil ran for 132 yards and three touchdowns, while Dyer added 143 rushing yards and a touchdown, and caught a pair of TD passes as well.

Stillwater moves to 4-1 on the year with the victory.

Soccer Sectionals; Fordians, Warriors Advance

Waterford 2 Greenwich 1 OT: It took an overtime session to decide a great match, under the lights in Waterford Thursday night.

A back and forth first half of action took the squads to the break with the game scoreless.

Less than one minute into the second half the Witches Christian VanDoren collected a loose ball and went far post to give Greenwich the 1-0 lead.

Twelve minutes later Waterford knotted things, when Josh Catanzarita found a streaking Skyler Tostes who’s chip shot found the back of the net for the 1-1 deadlock.

Just minutes into overtime it again was Catanzarita to Tostes, with the latter ripping the game-winner from 25 yards out, sending the Fordians on to a quarterfinal match with #5 Chatham on Saturday, under the lights in Waterford.

Stillwater 1 Doane Staurt 0: In a game played mostly between the 18’s and saw the two squads combine for just seven shots in the match, Stillwater’s Harry Rubenstein connected eight minutes into the second half with what proved to be the game-winner, advancing the Warriors to a quarterfinal matchup in Maple Hill on Saturday.

Canajoharie 3 Hoosic Valley 2 OT: In a match that saw firework in the first half, and defense in the second, it took an extra session to decide things between these evenly matched squads on Thursday in Schaghticoke.

Tyler Eddy put the Valley on the board first, connecting off a corner kick, fifteen minutes into the game.

Canjo answered quickly on a Cody Haig tally knotting things at 1-1

Minutes later the Valley took the 2-1 advantage on a 25 yard curling shot by Jack Wiley that found the net, but with eight minutes remaining in the half, it was Haig, using the dribble to free himself, and rifling a shot off the crossbar for the equalizer.

Defense took control in the second half with neither team able to break through.

Seven minutes into overtime, Haig went top corner for the game-winner, his third goal of the match,. moving Canajoharie onto the Class C quarters.

Chatham 3 Berlin/New Lebanon 1: Berlin/New Lebanon took the early 1-0 lead, but Chatham shut down the Mountaineer attack the rest of the way and posted the opening round win in Class C.

Midway through the first half B/NL Wyatt Powers connected, giving the Mountaineers the 1-0 advantage, that was erased before the break on a Miguel Casarrubias tally.

Second half goals by Casarrubias and Elliot Bailey, combined with the Chatham defense after the break, sealed the “W” for Chatham.

Germantown 4 Spa Catholic 1: Germantown ran out to a 2-0 halftime lead on goals from Jonathan Mollo and Mason Ferrar, and were never headed in a Class D match at Gavin Park on Thursday.

Early in a the second half the Saints drew closer on a Jacob Hajos tally, but later in the half, Mollo and Ferrar added their second scores of the match, closing out the Germantown “W”.

Mechanicville 4 Johnstown 0: Leading 1-0 at the break, Mechanicville used three second half strikes to post the victory in a Class B girls opening round match.

Nevaeh D’Aloia connected for a pair of goals, and Anna Izzo and Isabella Raucci added single strikes to lead the Raider attack.

Mechanicville keeper Olivia Horan combined with the Raider “D” for the shutout.

Next up for Mechanicville is a home quarterfinal with Coxsackie-Athens on Saturday.

Tamarac 1 Schuylerville 1 Tamarac advances on penalty kicks: After a scoreless first half Tamarac’s Abbie Yetto and Schuylerville’s Macey Koval connected with second half tallies setting up extra sessions, with the Bengals eventually winning on PK’s 4-3, sending Tamarac on to a Class B quarterfinal match with Schalmont, on Saturday.

Cambridge 4 Whitehall 0: After a scoreless first half Cambridge found the back of the net four times after the break, getting two goals each from Addison Gates and Mia Aply, in posting the win over Whitehall in a Class C play-in.

Cambridge keeper Rochelle Daniels saved four shots and combined with the Cambridge defense for the shutout.

With the win Cambridge moves on to a matchup with #3 Maple Hill on Friday.

Berne Knox 1 Hoosic Valley 0: An Ashlee Stevens first half tally proved to be the difference in BK’s win over the Valley in Schaghticoke on Wednesday.

Hoosic Valley keeper Riley Caiaza saved 21 shots in the match for the Indians.

Mechanicville 12 Fonda 0: The Raiders score seven times before the break and rolled to the first round victory in Class B.

Andrew Kraszewski connected for five goals, giving him 100 for his career, to lead the Mechanicville squad.

Joining Kraszewski in the scoring parade were six other Raiders including Colin McNutt who tallied twice, and Tom Wendell, Joe Devito, Ryan Grimmick, Logan Starks and Scotty Lynch who all rang the bell one time.

Top seeded Mechanicville moves on to the quarters and a match with Coxsackie-Athens.

Canajoharie 0 Tamarac 0: Canajoharie advances on penalty kicks.

Soccer Sectionals; Witches, Mountaineers Advance

Greenwich 7 CCHS 0: Holding a 2-0 lead at halftime, the Witches scored five times after the break to post the dominant “W” over the Crusaders in Greenwich on Tuesday.

Five Witches scored in the win led by Madigan Carner’s hat trick, with Josh Poovery, Declan Kelleher, Owen Keech and Amani Raphael all adding single tallies.

Greenwich keeper Owen Keech saved six shots to earn the shutout for the Witches who advance to a Thursday night match with the Fordians of Waterford.

Berlin/New Lebanon 2 Hoosick Falls 1: The Mountaineers used a pair of Chris Shorter goals to get past the Falls in New Lebanon on Tuesday.

Alex Salvescold connected for the Hoosick Falls goal.

B/NL moves on in the tournament, and will travel on Thursday to face Chatham in a 3 p.m. start.

Berne Knox 4 Cambridge 0: Stavros Lefkaditisz with a pair of goals, and Zack Schwenk and Ben Zyniecki with single scoring strikes, led BK past Cambridge in a Class C play-in match on Tuesday.

Lucas Losito played well in the nets for BK, to earn the shutout.

Sunday Morning Roundup; Cambridge /Salem Tops Horde

Cambridge/Salem 34 Granville 18: Cambridge/Salem trailed 12-7 after the first quarter, but used a pair of Alex Luke touchdowns in the second frame to take the lead, on their way to the well-earned road win in Granville on Saturday.

Luke scored on a 10-yard run and threw a 20-yard scoring strike to Brice Burr, giving C/S a 20-13 advantage at the break.

C/S extended their lead in the third period, on a Clifford Lewis 10-yard run for six, but Granville didn’t go quietly, responding with an Alex Warrington 1-yard TD, trimming the deficit to 27-18.

Eli Danio sealed the “W” for Cambridge/Salem late in the final period on a 40-yard touchdown romp.

With the win C/S moves to 2-2, 4-3 on the year.

Waterford 5 Berlin/New Lebanon 0: On a windy, rainy day in Mechanicville, Waterford used the wind advantage in the first half, scoring all five of their goals, in notching the victory over Berlin/New Lebanon.

Josh Catanzarita with a hat trick, and Skyler Tostes and Jarron Maguire with single tallies led the Fordian attack.

Waterford keeper Alex Roy saved five shots and combined with the Fordian defense for the clean sheet.

Mountaineer keeper Kevin Chittenden saved 10 shots in the match.

AuSable Valley 4 Stillwater 2: AuSable Valley used goals from four different players to get past the Warriors on Saturday.

Jillian Bezio, Lilley Keyser, Addie Stanley and Jenna Stanley all connected for scores in the match for AuSable Valley.

Isabella Estill, with a goal in each half, led the Warriors offensively.

Saturday Morning Roundup: Greenwich Routs Lake George, Raiders Complete Perfect Regular Season

Football

Greenwich 71 Lake George 16: Lake George actually took an 8-7 lead early in the first, before Greenwich scored 49 unanswered points over the next two periods, turning the lights out on the Warriors Friday night in Lake George.

Deontae Bennett and Matt Conlin both scored four touchdowns to lead the Witches assault. Bennett caught touchdown passes of 50, 20 and 20 yards from Jesse Kuzmich, and added a 15-yard run for six. Colin scored on carries of four, four, four and five yards, while the longest scoring play of the night for Greenwich came on a third quarter kickoff return of 80 yards by Parker Jamieson.

With the win, Greenwich, the fifth ranked Class D team in the state, moves to 6-0 overall.

Stillwater 47 Warrensburg 26: Warrensburg held a 6-0 lead after the first period, but Stillwater outscored their guests 40-14 over the middle two frames to take control, and closed out the “W” in Stillwater Friday night.

The Warriors C.J. McNeill ran for scores of four, seven and nine yards, and Caleb Dyer added a 31-yard TD run, and touchdown catches of 15 and 23 yards from Stillwater QB Colby Paffen.

On the night McNeil and Dyer combined for 275 rushing yards for Stillwater who notched their fourth straight win, improving to 4-1 on the season.

Tamarac/Hoosick Falls 30 Mechanicville 0: Josh Colegrove ran for three touchdowns, and the Tamarac/Hoosick Falls defense did the rest, shutting down the Raiders in the Wildcats road “W” Friday night.

T/HF quarterback Jake Sparks added a 10-yard scoring run and the Wildcat defense opened the night with a safety.

T/HF rushed for 200 yards in the game led by Colegrove’s 90 yard night.

After an opening week loss to Schuylerville, Tamarac/Hoosick Falls post’s their fifth straight victory improving to 5-1 on the year.

Mechanicville 9 Tamarac 3: Five different Raiders connected for goals in the road win over the Bengals.

Colin McMutt led the Raider scoring with three goals, followed by Wyqie Aguda and Andrew Kraszewski with two goals apiece, and Ryan Grimmick and Tom Wendel with single scoring strikes.

Rocco DiCarlo scored a pair of goals for Tamarac, with Xander Glisoco adding a single tally for the Bengals. With the win Mechanicville completes their regular season with a perfect 17-0 mark, clinching their fifth straight Wasaren crown.

Waterford 7 Hoosick Falls 0: Six Fordians tallied, and the Waterford defense dominated throughout, in the home win over Hoosick Falls Friday night.

Josh Catanzarita connected twice, while Matt Soden, Skyler Tosts, Mason Noto, Jarron Maguire and Nate Griner all rang the bell one time for Waterford, who with the win improve to 10-5 on the season.

Greenwich 3 Cambridge 0: First half goals from Shamus Brophy and Madigan Carner gave Greenwich a 2-0 halftime cushion, and the Witches never looked back in notching the home “W” on Friday.

Aaron Stutzman added a second half tally for Greenwich to round out the scoring in the match.

Witches keeper Owen Keech needed just one save to earn the shutout, while Cambridge keeper Ethan Robertson denied 10 shots in defeat.

Hoosic Valley 1 Berlin/New Lebanon 0: Jaquelyn Carlo took a Sydney Valcik feed and finished for the only score of the match, giving the Valley the road win over the Mountaineers on Thursday.

Hoosic Valley keeper Riley Caiaza saved 12 shots to earn the shutout, while Berlin/New Lebanon keeper Rebecca Madsen denied eight shots in the game.

Greenwich 2 Cambridge 2 2OT: Offense was on display early, before both defensive units shut the door, forcing the teams to settle for the deadlock.

Cambridge jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a pair of goals from Addison Gates, but Greenwich quickly answered with a pair of scoring strikes from Elizabeth Marci, and the teams went into the halftime break tied at 2-2, with neither squad able to tally the rest of the way.

Waterford 2 Hoosick Falls 1 2 OT: Mia O’Brien tallied in the first overtime session to give Waterford the road victory over Hoosick Falls Thursday night.

Waterford’s Cassidy McClement and the Panthers Grace Houghton both connected for goals in the first half of play, and after a scoreless second half, the game was decided on O’Brien’s overtime strike.

Fordian keeper Maddie Atwood saved six shots in the match, while Falls keeper Olivia Estes turned back 10 attempts.

Mechanicville 11 Cambridge 0: In yet another dominant performance by Mechanicville, the Raiders scored nine first half goals on their way to the one-sided decision over Cambridge Wednesday night.

Andrew Kraszewski tallied four times, Wyqie Aguda added three goals, Colin McNutt scored a pair, while Fen Egan and Joe Devito rounded out the onslaught with single strikes.

Mechanicville keeper Dylan Raucci needed just one save in recording the shutout.

Hoosic Valley 5 Spa Catholic 1: The Saints took an early lead on a miscommunication between the Valley sweeper and goalie, but for the remainder of the match the visitors from Schaghticoke dominated, posting the road win and clinching the division with the “W”.

The Indians spread the wealth offensively with Tyler Eddy, Logan Reilly, Jack Wiley, Isaiah Eckler and Andrew Wood all connecting on scoring strikes.

Girls Soccer; Waterford Moves to 14-0

Waterford 9 Hoosic Valley 1: The Fordians scored five times before the break, and cruised past the visitors from Schaghticoke, under the lights in Waterford on Tuesday.

Waterford, averaging nearly seven goals per contest, had three players with multiple tallies in the match. Addyson Galuski connected for a hat trick, Sophia Belonga and Natalie Rich finished twice each, while Cassidy McClement and Sage Grennon added single strikes.

Waterford keepers Maddy Atwood with five saves and Imani Bloomfield with two saves anchored the Fordian “D” that is allowing less than one goal per match this season.

With the “W”, Waterford stays perfect, moving to 14-0 on the year.

Mechanicville 3 Stillwater 0: The Raiders built a 2-0 advantage by halftime, and added an insurance goal after the break in notching the road win over Stillwater.

Anna Izzo opened the scoring in the 14th minute off a Nevaeh D’Aloia feed, and five minutes later Meghan DiSiena finished another D’Aloia find for the 2-0 cushion.

After intermission D’Aloia found the back of the net with an unassisted strike to wrap the Mechanicville scoring in the match.

Red Raider keeper Olivia Horan, two saves, combined with the Mechanicville defense for the clean sheet.

Stillwater keeper Mia Corraro denied 14 shots in defeat.

Hoosick Falls 2 Tamarac 1: The Panthers Ava Salvesvold scored the game-winner in the 78th minute, giving the visitors from Hoosick Falls the well-earned victory over Tamarac.

The Falls held a 1-0 lead at the break, courtesy of a Rylie Niles scoring strike in the 28th minute.

But the Bengals tied things midway through the second half when Abby Buckley found Sophia Champagne, who finished for the 1-1 deadlock, setting up the difference-maker from Salvesvold.

Panther keeper Olivia Estes saved 12 shots in the match while her counterpart Ragan Retell turned back nine shots for the Bengals.
