Greenwich Wins Weeden Tourament

In the first annual Charles Weeden Memorial Tournament the Lady Witches from Greenwich won a high-scoring affair in round one and followed that with a shutout victory in the championship game to earn the tournament title.

A cool, dry Friday provided the backdrop to a full schedule of baseball and softball action in the league, highlighted by a Greenwich baseball victory moving the Witches to 5-0 on the season.

O’Brien allowed a pair of runs in the first then shutout the Bengals the rest of the way, while the Greenwich lineup broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the fifth, and put the game away in the sixth with a four spot.   Continue reading

Diamond Results, Spa Catholic Wins Twice

While the baseball/softball season is still in it’s early stages the Saints of Saratoga Catholic couldn’t have hoped for a better start.  Both the softball and baseball squads are undefeated at 3-0, each adding wins yesterday on a busy Friday in the Wasaren.

Winning Pitcher:  Dante Marin 5 IP  6Hits  2 Runs 10 K’s

Hitting Stars:  Saints – Terel Tillman 4-5, 3 RBI’s,     Nick Winslow 3-5, 2B,     Tyler Haraden 2-3, 2 2B’s      Dante Marin 3-5, 4 RBI’s        Warriors – Luke Shultz 3-3, 2 2B’s      Scott Travis 2B, RBI

In a game tied at 3-3 after four innings of play, the lethal Saints lineup scored 12 times over the next two frames to notch the victory.  Saratoga Catholic has outscored it’s opponents 44-7 in three league contests thus far.   Continue reading

Tamarac put 12 runs on the board after two innings of play and cruised to their third win in as many outings on the young season.

Jacob LaFountain and Jacob Popiel combine on a one-hitter with 15 K’s to lead the Raiders to the “W”.

 

Softball

Hitting Stars:  Bengals – McKenna Ryan 3-4, 2B     Nicole Madigan 3-4     Gia Bucciero 3-4, 3 RBI’s       Panthers – M. Landry 1-3     S. Merwin 1-3

Hienrichs limited the Panthers to a pair of singles in the contest, while the Bengals bats ripped 13 hits in notching the victory.

Hitting Stars:  Saints – Cassidy Hayner 3-4, HR, 2B, 5 RBIs     Emmy Murray 3-5, RBI      Valley – Brianna Bogue 4-5     Hollis Guilanelle 2-4

An extra inning affair that saw the Saints score four times in the top of the eighth, while the Valley plated three runs in the bottom of the frame before Spa closed things out. Continue reading

Panthers and Bengals Fall in Finals

Leading Scorers:  Warriors – Caleb Scrime 24     Alex Jones 14     Chris Becker 13      Panthers – Jonathan Kempf 19     Evan McCart 10

Key Points:  In a game tied 47-47 midway through the final period, Lake George closed the contest with a 14-2 run to claim the Section II Class C boys title.  With the win the Warriors improve to 24-0 on the year and will move on to regional play, while Hoosick Falls finishes a fine season at 19-5.
